L--Lace
A delicate fabric made of thread or
yarn in an open work web.
It is made by hand or machine.
It was first developed in Europe .
during the 16 century.
Linen , silk , gold and silver thread
were originally used. Now cotton
thread is used though linen and silk
are still available.
Types of lace--
Needle lace is made with a needle and
thread.
Cutwork is constructed by removing
threads from a background and filling
with embroidery.
Bobbin lace is made with a bobbin.
Machine lace is created or replicated
on a machine.
There are many more types.
Lace was used by clergy in the early
Catholic Church as part of vestments.

Love lace. It is so pretty and can
be added to so many things. I
added lace to the bottom of a flannel
shirt to add a feminine touch to the
shirt.

I have used lace in the past as trims on finished cross stitch pieces.
