A Funny Thing...

Funny thing happened yesterday...

So during the Chiefs game, I was
working in our family room putting away
Christmas decor, ornaments etc. In trying
to see if the tree box would fit in the closet
with everything else the door somehow
locked itself!
Mr. Ken found the key to the door but to
no avail would the door open!  We tried
several things but no the door won't open!
We even took the pins out of the hinges,
trying to get the door open but that
didn't work either.
Fast forward to today, calling locksmiths
for price quotes to open the door. Hope-
fully we have found one and soon we will
have the door open or we will have the tree
up till December again and the rest of the
stuff that needs to go in the closet
will be on the floor till then.

Funny today but not yesterday.

Locksmith will be out tomorrow!!

Hope everyone is doing well and all of
your doors open. ; )

A Wild Start

Well, here we are, January is half over.
Can you believe it?
I started back to school from break last
week and promptly got sick the second
day back while at school good golly,
home on Wednesday too. I'm doing
better.

These lovely pics are from the snow-
storm we had over the last weekend.
We ended having around 7-10"
depending on the location.

My Father in law lost power as did
many of the people around the city.
He has been with us since Saturday
afternoon. Good news, he just found
out his power came back on!

This is the neighbor's tree towards
to the end of the storm.
Imagine a backyard full of tree limbs
and two people wielding a new chain-
saw to remove limbs off of cable and
power lines.
And they are still there because we
have to cut them up and figure out
what to do with them.

We have another a storm coming up
this week end too!!

How did your January begin?

Life of Me

This was me last week, going here and
there and it seemed like I was going
very  FAST! So much went on.

Last Tuesday these two celebrated
their 19th anniversary! We had a very
nice dinner at a new to us restaurant.

On Wednesday, Mr. Ken's Dad had heart
surgery. He is a new man now, came
through the surgery with flying colors. He
is home and doing great!
Surgery was the culmination of many weeks
of tests and Dr's visits. A stressful time for
the whole family.
The night of Dad's surgery, Mr. Ken got very
sick and I got sick Thursday. Stayed home
Friday too.
Mr. Ken's was food related  (we think) and
mine was exhaustion.
Saturday was the anniversary of my Mom's
passing. We have missed her for 11 years now.

On Sunday, I was feeling better and was
able to start and finish a couple of
Christmas projects.
The pic above is our Advent wreath from
when I was a little girl. I redid the whole
thing, I bought a silver tray for the base
glued the candle holders together for more
stability and changed the greenery a bit.
So very happy with how it turned out. A
bit behind with this but it can still be used.

I wanted a wreath for our door but  wanted
something that would be easy to store or
pack up with the Christmas stuff.
Bought a picture frame with the intention
of painting it red but decided to leave it
brown to match my floral picks, used sand
paper to stress the frame a tiny bit, painted
a wooden L and glued everything on. Pretty
simple but  I like it.

Hope all is well with everyone and I hope we
have a quieter week!

Around Town.

Hi! Hello! Howdy!

We are live from Noah's Ark
tonight. Actually I am posting
from my couch but it could be a
n ark. We have had over 8" of
rain in the last few days. We
needed the rain badly but not
all at once!

Before it rained FOREVER, we
had the pleasure of several sun-
sets as the one above.

We have a great museum here in our
area that has an All Electric 1950's
House. A real house right inside the
museum that depicts what life was
like for a family in the 50's.

This is the living room---check out the
décor! It has been staged for the summer
season but at Christmas they have the tree
that twirls with the lights under it.

What movie shall we watch tonight?

Master bedroom. Mom has her dress
picked out for her outing. Love the
makeup vanity and the exercise machine.

Off the Master is the baby's room.

Hallway bathroom. Check out those
color choices.

Such a fun house to go through,
one of our favorite exhibits in the
museum. It's fun to watch the kids go
through it with their parents and listen
to all their comments.

Fired up the firepit a couple of  Saturdays
and got rid of a BUNCH of yard waste.

Enjoyed breakfast with some of
my favorite people. Former co-workers.
Fun to catch up with everyone.
Oh Blogger why do you do
this to me?

Hit one of our favorite "patches"
between raindrops.

So many fun varieties.

A soggy beanbag toss game.

So now you know what we have been
up to. Hopefully the rain will be ending
soon. We will be in the 50's starting
tomorrow going from the 70's. Our low's
will be in the 30's. Mother Nature is a mess!

Happy Fall

Fall leaves, those dreaded things
that fall off the trees and makes
a mess out of everything.

Well, I have some other uses
for them besides bagging
them up.

1. Use them for craft projects.
Leaf people, animals etc.

2. Make a Scarecrow--
Stuff the head and shirt
with leaves instead of
straw.

3. Create votive holders--
Use Mod Podge to stick leaves
to a mason jar and let the warm
colors and let the warm colors
give your home a cozy glow.

4. Turn those beauties into
confetti by using a hole punch
then sprinkle on your table.

5. Use a leaf that is in good
condition as a stamp. Cover
with paint and use it to stamp
a leaf print on napkins or a table
cloth.

Did you know?
The color of the leaves depends
on the tree species--makes sense
to me.
Sugar Maples are reddish orange
Oaks turn  red, yellow or brown
Aspens are golden.

We have two Maples and one Oak.
Our Oak is always yellow, I'll have
to watch our Maples now.

What Can YOU Do with Paper Clips?

Paper clips the office/home necessity.

But in this post I have some other
ideas for these hard workers.

1. Clean your computer:
Turn off your machine, cover the end
of a clip with a small piece of tissue
dipped in rubbing alcohol, carefully
run the covered clip end over your
keyboard, removing dust and grime.

2. Put on a bracelet by yourself:
Unfold the clip into an "S" shape,
hook one end through the clasp.
Hold the other end in your bracelet
hand and fasten the clasp with your
free hand.

3. Decorate a cake:
Use the end to create fine details in
the icing or straighten it out to hold
decorations and toppers in place
once the cake comes out of the oven.

4. Secure floral displays:
Use a straightened clip (s)
in place of expensive floral wire.

5. Transform a bra:
Turn a regular bra into a racerback
by connecting the back straps with a
clip, which can slide up and down
depending on your shirt style.

Did you know:

An estimated 11 billion paper clips
are sold each year in the U.S.?

News, News, News

Hello everyone,!
I am happy and proud to say
that TOMORROW is my 9th
Blogversary! Still plugging away.
I am sooooooo thankful for those
of you who still come by for a visit!

Mr. Ken and I went to a local Farmer's
Market and they had these sculptures in
the green space, well you know us we
couldn't resist goofing around before
purchasing our goodies.

We have had some beautiful sunsets
lately. I captured this one coming out
of a store.

My friend Nancy and I went to a Scrap-
book Expo, don't do much with my stuff
but I do use the paper and stickers at
school. The paper makes much nicer
letters for bulletin boards than plain
construction paper.

We put our names in for some drawings
AND we both one. Pics above and below
are the goodies I won very excited!

Took Mr. Ken on a country adventure last
Friday. Didn't tell him where we were going
OR most importantly what we were going to
see. Thankfully GPS got us there. I don't
always trust it though.

A friend had posted on Facebook some
pics she had taken of her daughter here
and loving Sunflowers as I do I had to go
see them. So when Mr. Ken got home off
we went. Lot's of fun!

This morning I made these for Mr. He
loves the Refrigerator Pickles on the right
and as an experiment I tried a version of
the same recipe with fresh carrots.
Very early on in blogging, I got the recipe
for the Refrigerator Pickles from a blog
friend and have made them every summer
since. It is sooooo easy to make and does
not require the "canning process." plus
they are never around very long.  ;)

If you want the recipe let me know.

I will pop in briefly Wednesday with more
news, stay tuned.
