I'm Still Here!

Hi! Hello! Howdee  do!
As stated in the title for
this post, I am still here
and I hope you are too!

School began on the 8th
and I have been running
crazy ever since!  It has
not been the smoothest of
starts unfortunately. Hope
it smooths out soon. Last
week, I was out with an
Achilles tendon issue,
bought some new tennies
and that colored sport tape.
Wrapped my foot the rest of
the week. It is getting better.

What else is going on here,
we have been enjoying some
awesome sunsets as seen above.

Yesterday we went to a Senior
men's baseball game. It was
called The Babe Ruth Classic
1920's style.

A Kansas City based men's team
split into two teams Kansas City

Blues and Minnesota Millerand played in the classic.
Some of the players on each
team wore "old school"
uniforms.

It was hot out but we found a
spot in the shade.

This morning we hopped in the car
and headed here.

Apples, several varieties and peaches
were available for the pickin'.

These were the main reason for our trip.
Honeycrisp apples!
Not the only thing we picked up though:
Peaches
Cherries
Chow Chow
Horseradish Pickles
Parmesan  Salad Dressing
Carmel Dip

Great trip!

We will resume Vacation posts next time.

I DID IT!!!!

Ladies and Gentlemen!!!!!
I did it, I completed the
Challenge!!!
If you remember, at the end
of May I mentioned that I had
planned to read 50 books before
school started.
Mr. Ken dared to ask if "I really
could do that!" Well, look at the
pile in front of me!
I will admit towards the end it
got a bit tough but I just kept
going cause I knew what was
coming if I completed this
challenge.

With school starting and sooo
many things to get caught up
on we did not make to Baskin
Robbins till tonight.

Step right up.

Here is the prize I chose!
A Hot Fudge Brownie Sundae
complete with two scoops-
one vanilla and one chocolate
plus whipped cream, nuts and
a cherry!

Oh yea!!! Yum! Yum!

Thanks to my great
husband for the delicious
treat!
Don't worry though, he
had two scoops of Very
Berry Strawberry.

Challenge Update

Hello!

Well, my challenge with Mr. Ken

has started. I have read and
finished 2 of the 50 I have been
challenged to read!
I started book one on Wednesday
and finished it Thurday afternoon.
I began book 2 yesterday afternoon
and finished it this evening.
Baskin Robbins is looking better
by the day. Watch out Mr. Ken!!

My reading takes place around the

other activities I have on my "get
accomplished" list. Lots going on
in the house because it is too wet to
go outside. I feel like Sally and her
brother in The Cat in the Hat!

Please keep those in the flooded

areas in your prayers.

A Challenge

Hello~

School is out as most of you

know soooo hopefully I can
post more often!

So Mr. Ken asked me yesterday

what I had planned for the Summer,
I rattled off a list of things I hope to
get accomplished. One of them being
to read 50 books. Now Mr. Ken knows
how much I love to read and that I am
a pretty fast reader but being the feisty
fella he is he said to me "That is a lot

of books--do you think you can read
that many before you go back to
school?"  Well, I said "Of course I can
read 50 books, are you challenging me
here?" He said "Well, yes I am."
After much discussion on this challenge
here is the deal:
If I read 50 books--they must be adult
books no kid books. I get to go to Baskin
Robbins and Mr. Ken will have to buy me
whatever I choose, if I don't then Mr. Ken
gets to choose what he wants and I have
to buy. I hope he has his pennies saved
because I WILL NOT be losing this
challenge!!!!

If you would like to join in reading 50

books this summer, let me know. I will
be posting updates on Fridays and let
you know when I have found a goodie.

Oh Baby, It's Hot Outside!

Hello Everyone!

Well, summer has arrived with a
vengance. We are having a slight
heat wave with a heat advisory
possibly till Tuesday! The heat
index could top 108 today. Now,
you have to understand that up
until a few days ago, we were
having summer temps in the
upper 80's. And... now we
are having the temps we
normally have here in the
summer.

So to combat the heat and the
(restless natives) my students.
I broke out the Jelly Belly Ice
Shaver. This one is hand cranked
but I think they have an electic
one also. Picked this up at Target
earlier this summer. Too much fun!

The original recipe was trippled
times two so that we would have
enough to go around.  We had 20
enjoying shaved ice.
So three cups of water heated to a boil.
Three for each flavor.

(Wrong pic) Six pkgs. Kool-Aid.

Three cups of sugar! Yes, that's right.
Put in the boiling water and remove
from the heat. Then add three pkgs
of Kool-Aid.

Let cool down and put in a
pour bottle. Store in the
fridge.

Ta-Da cherry flavored shaved
ice!

For the grape I just made it "like"
Kool-Aid. Each was a little different
but the flavor for both was great!
My kids loved it and so did the staff!

If you are doing this with mulitple
flavors, I would do it like I did the
grape one, that way you won't have
the "wait" time in between flavors.
The only thing you won't have is the
heaviness of the "simple syrup" that
the red one made.

Here is the original recipe:

Shaved Ice Syrup

2 C  sugar
1 C water
1 Pkg of Kool-Aid

Bring water to a boil, add sugar
and stir add Kool-Aid and remove
from heat. Let cool.

I cut the sugar amount in half and believe
one cup is enough. You could even do
a half cup sugar or do a sugar free version
with a sweetener of your choice.

Enjoy!

Park Fun

Saturday was a
beautiful Summer
day to
wander the
park. Ken had a call
to make at one the
county parks, so I
went with him.
After he was finished
working we drove
around the park.

The ducks were out
and about.

The lake was so pretty
with the sun shining
on it.

People out paddling.

Lots of boats!

Kids and Dad fishing--
so fun.
