Show and Tell

Today we are going to have Show and Tell. I bought these pretty tea towels at the local Dollar Tree and I'm going to make Tea Towel aprons for a Bridal Shower gift. I saw them over at "Tator Tots and Jello" via "Jane at Decor Mama" 2-7-10. They are adorable AND they are NO SEW! Won't they be cute with some wooden spoons? Can't wait. I took a plate like this and some of the red dots.
And turned it into this......
A cute serving platter for spring! I'll put yellow
dots on the other plate for another platter.
This was another idea I saw on "Tator Tots
and Jello"--she used black plates and white
dots. The possibilities are endless!
See that magazine up there? Go ahead--look it
over. Doesn't THAT scene look inviting?
Well, I WON this magazine from Simone over
at "Beach Vintage."
I took a couple of "teaser" pictures for you to
drool over. Watch out for your keyboard though!
A couple of more things before I let you
go tonight:
1--Misha over at "From My Front Porch in
the Mountains." is having a great, neat, super
Giveaway--check it out!
2--If you missed my recipe post on Friday
please take a look, it' a super easy recipe,
good for a cold winter's night.

A Go to Recipe...

Ken and I really enjoy this recipe--I didn't
get a "before" so you get the "after" picture.
I thought I would share this with you. It easy
and simple but filling. Great to use when you
need something quick.
Cheesebuger Rice--
1lb. ground beef --browned and drained
Seasonings of your choice
2 C Minute Rice--cooked
1/2 C-3/4 C of Ketchup
Mustard to taste (optional)
Pickles (optional)
Cheese slices 3-5
Season, brown and drain ground beef. While
that is cooking, cook the rice. Once the ground
beef is finshed add the ketchup and the
mustard, cook for about 5 minutes.
Add the rice--mix well. When the beef and
rice are mixed, place cheese slices on top,
cover with a lid, turn off heat and let sit
until cheese melts. Top with pickles and
serve. Yum! Yum! Enjoy!!
****This recipe can be doubled--great for
leftovers. Add more of anything if you feel
it necessary.

A Trip Down Memory Lane

I was shopping at one of my favorite stores last Monday when I came upon this delightful little ditty! I was sooo excited when I saw this loom. I had one of these when I was little but it got lost along the way, but now I have a new one. Let me back up a little and say this particular store carries gently "pre owned " items. I wouldn't call it a thrift store but I guess it could be. The proceeds from the sales go to Big Brothers and Sisters.
Inside the box (which had NEVER been opened) was
a loom in a bag, some beads for bling and the loops for
weaving. These loops are nylon as opposed to cotton
like my old ones.
The best thing about my new toy is that it only cost $2.99
plus tax as you can see by my photo. How exciting is that!
When I get one finished I'll show it to you.
Did anyone else have one of these???

Happy New Year!!!!

On February 14, 2010 Chinese New Year began. It is
a holiday celebrating a new year according to the
LUNAR calendar. The calendar tracks the phases of
the moon.
Some say this holiday is a combination (due to the
similiarity) of our Thanksgiving--eating symbolic
foods, Christmas--giving of gifts and New Years--
celebrating. It is a Spring festival that usually lasts
around 15 days.
On the first day--an ancient custom called Hong Bao
takes place. Families give their children and unmarried
adults money in red envelopes. The end of the new
year is marked with the Festival of Lanterns. A
celebration involving singing, dancing and lantern shows.
The Chinese Zodiac:
Folklore states that The Jade Emperor in Heaven
invited the animals to a race to decide the order of
the zodiac. The RAT hitched a ride on the OX, as
the Ox got close to the finish line the Rat jumped
off the Ox and WON the race! Making him the first
animal in this zodiac.
So the order goes like this: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit,
Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog,
and Pig.
The Tiger:
Years: 1914, 1926, 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998,
2010, 2022.
Character Traits: Caring, thoughtful, courageous,
rebellious against authority, makes hasty decisions.
Compatible with: Horse, Dragon and Dog
Famous "Tigers": Jodie Foster, Tom Cruise, Jonas
Salk, and Alanis Morisette.
Are you a Tiger? I am. :)

say enough good things regarding Discover Vision Center -
they were awesome!
It is one of the most worriesome things that I have ever
personally been through -
"going to having your eye operated on"
I was nervous as could be and scarded to death.
Melinda kept me updated on all of you all's well wishes and
prayers. This and Melinda staying strong for me, WE DID IT

Patient Update

Ken did very well with his surgery--here he is yesterday evening with his pirate patch on. When he naps or goes to bed he has to wear the shield over his eye. It's hard to see in the picture but it's there. He also gets eye drops too.

This morning we went back for follow-up. The Dr said Ken did very well and that he is right where he is supposed to be. His right eye is a little droopy but that will improve as the days go by. Ken told me that his vision has greatly improved in the right eye, soo I would say the surgery was a SUCCESS!

Stay tuned tomorrow for Thursday Thoughts and a guest!

*****Knee Update--Ken's knee is doing much better!

Family, Fun and Food!!!!

Today was "THE" Big Day for sport's fans. Something called the Super Bowl! But there is another bowl game being played. The Puppy Bowl! Those puppies are so cute! The Animal Planet broadcasts this each year. Then there was that other game. THE SUPER BOWL. Saints vs Colts. Don't forget the ads! We liked the Budwiser ad with the pony and the calf. Very cute! Did you watch the game? Which ad did you like?
We enjoyed an 'Ol fashioned Junk Food PARTY!!!!
Complete with Milk Duds, Mike and Ike, Dots,
M&M's, Reese's Pieces and Dry Roasted Peanuts.
Soda to drink. Yum! Yum!
Mr Ken is seen here enjoying chips and dip,
veggies, and pickles.
These delish little morsels were what we ate
later in the evening.
Here we have the pizza chefs cutting the pies. Mr
Ken is the "supervisor" while his Dad does the
cutting! :)
We had a great time being with Dad , watching
a super game (pardon the pun) and eating
yummy food!
