Old Glory

Good afternoon and Happy July!

Today let's chat about our flag.
Some call it "Old Glory."

The information below is from the
National Flag Foundation:

The current flag is the only one to
have lasted for more than 50 years

There have been 27 versions of the
American flag each with a different
amount of stars.

As we know there are:
50 stars representing each state
13 stripes representing the original
13 colonies that became the first
states in the Union.
History states that the colors of the
flag represent:
RED--hardiness and valor
WHITE--purity and innocence
BLUE--vigilance, perseverance and
justice

The flag always flies at the top of a
staff above any other staff.

After a tragedy the flag is flown at
"half staff" on land and "half mast"
on a ship. This occurs for 30 days of
mourning.

We have all been to a funeral at one
time in our lives and I am sure you
have noticed that if there is a flag,
it is folded a specific way.
Correct?
Military.com gives a great explanation
of  the Meaning Behind the 13 Folds of
the Flag. Most of this I did not know.

There is so much more that can be
posted on Old Glory, so if you are
interested ask your friend GOOGLE
for assistance.

One way or the other my flags WILL
get outside-hopefully the rain is
FINISHED!!

Something Yummy

 Hello!

Hope everyone is well.

Today I have an oldie but yummy recipe
for you.

This is a good one for a small or large
crowd.  Adjust ingredients as needed
for your group.

Veggie Salsa

2 15 oz cans diced tomatoes, drain well and
reserve the liquid
1 med green pepper
1 clove garlic
1/2 C red onion
5 green onions
1/2 C cilantro
1 can shoe peg white corn
1 can black beans, rinsed and drained
1 can black eyed peas, rinsed and drained
3/4 C zesty Italian dressing

Finely chop all veggies. Combine all
ingredients, adding enough reserved
liquid from tomatoes to desired
consistency.

Serve with tortilla chips.

Enjoy!!

This is a fave of Mr. Ken's!

Holiday Week

Well friends, here we are, the week before
4th of July.

Time is flying, who is ready? Um...not me!
But beginning tomorrow things will start
happening. I am hoping to do several posts
this week too.

Do you decorate for the 4th?
I do though not sure how much will get done
this year. Have tried to get flags outside but
that is usually when it decides to rain.
Hopefully we get a break from that.
I have several inside decorations that I would
like to get out so we'll see.

Hope everyone has a great week!

Summer! WHAT?!

Happy Summer!

Popping in with a quick post.

A Summer bucket list.
You will probably need to click
on it to enlarge. Hopefully you
will find something fun to
celebrate Summer.

Here are some of the things I
hope to do:

Go for a walk at night
Ride bikes
Go to the Lake (for the day)
Go to the movies
Swing at the Park  ; )
Have a picnic
Play games
Build a bonfire (in the firepit)
Roast Marshmallows (and  make
Smore's)

We have planted veggies +flowers
We visit with our neighbors ALL
the time.
I will see my Cousins on Saturday
meeting them for dinner after a
year of not being able to gather
together!

What will you do this summer?

Most of this is geared for kids so
have fun with the Grands or nieces
and nephews too. BUT don't let that
stop you, let us know what you may
do!!

Monday...

Good Morning, I hope your day
has started off well.

We had a great weekend !
Our neighborhood had it's annual
Garage Sales, we did not participate
this year. I did go to some of the sales
though. One of my favorite sales was
the . 25 sale my neighbor was having.
Everything except the large furniture
was a whopping quarter.! Forgot to
take a pic but I picked up a nice size
universal calendar that you use a dry
erase marker on, two very nice vintage
tablecloths--yep vintage, some baking
pans and a white porcelain like Holy
Family.

BUT the BIG score for the day was that
cutie in the picture above! Wanna guess
how much...I'll wait. FREE!! Yes, indeed
friends. I said FREE. It was on her curb
with a bunch of other stuff. I cannot tell
you how excited I am ! Looking forward
to putting this on my porch this winter.
I did tease Mr. Ken that we might have
"Christmas in July" just so I can put it
out. He looked at me as though I was
kidding. HA! HA!

This week will be busy around here. I am
working at Bible School three days plus
getting ready for family to arrive on
Friday. We are all going to the Royals
game that night. On Thursday and Friday
I will finish prep for them. Saturday we
will do fun stuff and on Sunday we will
all go down to my brother in laws to
celebrate Father's Day.

Whew I'll need a rest on Monday.
Mr. Ken took some vacay time next
week so who knows what will take
place!

I hope to be back again but not sure
with this crazy schedule.

Random Thoughts

Happy Wednesday!

It is HOT here! I am not a fan.
Spring left very fast.   :(

We need some rain, getting a bit dry.

Ice Cream is becoming a daily thing.

Who gets a sore throat in June? I am
blaming the air conditioner and the
heat.

I love 70's music.

Do not miss the early alarm to get
up.

Salads are my fave in the Summer.

Told you it was random. :)

I'll be back soon with Part 2 of our
Oklahoma trip.

Good Morning...

I have a little "life hack" for you today.

Keep one of these in your car and use
it to carry multiple items. I use mine
for groceries. Trips to Target, Wal-
Mart and I have even used it at the
Garden center.

Saves on multiple trips back and
forth and it helps my back too.
As long as I don't load it down. :)

There you have it, my nugget for
the day.

Enjoy!

One of Those Fun Days

 Hello and Happy Friday!

Today is a big day!
It is National Doughnut Day!!

Apparently the day was established in
1938 to honor The Salvation Army
Donut Lassies. These were ladies that
served treats to soldiers during World
War I. Traditionally celebrated on the
first Friday of June.

Who knew??

I'll be honest here and say I LOVE
DOUGHNUTS!!!

Chocolate covered ones
Long Johns
Crullers
Twists
Cream filled
Glazed
Cinnamon Rolls too

One of our fave places to get these
yummies is at our local Quick Trip gas
station. Oh MY! Love them from small
Mom and Pop shops too.

How about you? What's your take on
doughnuts?

Happy Weekend!

It's the Weekend

Hello!
Popping in for a quick post.

Well, I did it! I made it through this very
long school year! Yesterday was my last
day for a bit.

Looking forward to some much needed rest
and relaxation with a lot of fun thrown in the
mix.

As we enjoy our weekend ahead, let us
remember those who served . Have a
safe weekend.

Sunday Funday

Happy Sunday to everyone!
I hope it has been a good one.

I am so excited because our rose
bush actually bloomed! Wasn't
sure it had made through our
weird winter.

So excited, hopefully more will pop
out!

On another note, we have had soooo
much rain here but was able to capture
this beauty while out shopping one evening.
Then...

 A rainbow popped out!

Three and a half days left of school!!!

Fun with Family-Part 1

Friday, May 7th. Going on a road trip!
Here's our driver.

We have arrived! Still have a bit of a drive,
almost to Oklahoma City. Arrived at Mr.
Ken's sister's house, got settled, visited
with my brother-in-law and nephew then
we were off to dinner--Mexican!
One of our niece's met us for dinner and
then we went to the home that she and
her husband purchased a year ago.
Headed back and crashed for the night.

After a homemade breakfast on Saturday
we headed down to Oklahoma City, to the
Flower and Garden Festival at the Myriad
Botanical Gardens.

The inside was closed for renovations but the
grounds were where the vendors and such were.
When Mr. Ken and I were dating we made a trip
down and we all went here. So pretty inside.

This is an open area that they have concerts
and other fun activities at during the year.

Lots of water. Ducks, geese, birds and fish
hang out here.

A beautiful sculpted lawn by the steps which lead
to area by the water.

Brother-in-law, Mr, Ken and our nephew.

Hope enjoyed your visit to the gardens.
Part two will cover Saturday afternoon.
Come on back for that adventure.

Big Celebration!

Today we had the pleasure of  celebrating a
big birthday in the family!

Mr. Ken's Uncle (on the right) will be 90
tomorrow! He is talking to Mr. Ken's Dad,
the baby brother to the birthday guy.

This is Mr.  Ken's  Aunt Rozella, Dad's older
sister.

The motley crew. Ha!!
Loren, Rozella's husband, Rozella, Mr. Ken, Dad
and Uncle Arnie--the birthday guy.

So fun to see this portion of the family and to
celebrate such a milestone. Uncle Arnie is a
sweet guy.

Hope everyone is doing well. I have a week and
half left of school and the some time off!

Let the Month Begin

Happy May!

Truthfully I never thought it would get here.
This has been a tough school year in a different
way than last and frankly I am D. O. N. E. I
have 17 1/2  days left but if you want to get
technical, I have Friday off so I guess 16 1/2
days left in this crazy school year.

We had such great weather this past weekend,
a lot of time spent outside. As you can see my
Iris' have bloomed! My neighbor gave me these
2 or 3  years ago and I plopped them in the
ground hoping they would come back. Last
Spring I had some but this time around I have
more. Lucky me. Got a lot of my pots placed
in the front and back and then decided I needed
more so off I went to get more. Ha! But I
was so busy cleaning, rearranging and updating
the deck for this season that I did not get them
planted.

We had new gutters put on the house and there
was some clean up form that, though they were
very good cleaning up their mess. Tomorrow
we get gutter covers!!! Mr. Ken will be a happy
guy then. It will be nice not to have to worry
about filled gutters.

We are going on a road trip! Yep, I said it ROAD
TRIP. We are heading to Oklahoma this Friday
to see Mr. Ken's sister and her family. We have
not it seen them in a looooong time. We'll be
hanging out at their house, so no hotel worries.
Looking forward to getting away for a bit!

Hope everyone is doing well, able to get out and
about and feeling comfortable to do so. We are
still a bit cautious but taking baby steps here and
there.

Hopefully I 'll be back this week before we head
out.
