They are Pretty

Today is Thursday and
in honor of yesterday's
snow our Thought for the
Day is:

Snowflakes are one
of nature's most fragile
things, but just look
what they do when
they stick together.

Big Sunday

It's Trivia time!

Super Bowl Trivia

The 1st super bowl was
on January 15, 1967 in LA.

It was simulcast on TV by two
channels instead of one.

A ticket cost $12 and some felt
that was an outragious price!
They should see the price now!!!

Fans will see the 47th Super Bowl
this Sunday--February 3rd.

The 47th Super Bowl will see two
brothers at the coaching helm.

Super Bowl 46 was the most
watched Super Bowl--with 113.3
million viewers.

The San Francisco 49ers with a
5-0 record are the only team to
appear in more than one Super
Bowl without losing.

Seventeen of the 46 bowl games
have been decided by 7 points or

fewer.

NOW ON TO THE FOOD

Super Bowl Sunday ranks second to
Thanksgiving Day for the highest food
consumption in the United States.

The Haas Avacado Board says 71.4
million pounds of avacado -that's
142 million avacados- were consumed
during last year's Super Bowl.

These are "The must have" foods
for the Super Bowl:

1--Salsa, dips and/or spreads-69%

2--Chicken Wings-63%

3--Pizza-61%

4--Desserts-30%

5--Subs/Sandwiches-49%

What do you serve for Super Bowl
Sunday?

Do you have a party/get together?
Friends are coming over and we will
enjoy a Mexican fare.

The Puppy Bowl

You can find the Puppy Bowl on the
Animal Planet Channel each Super
Bowl Sunday--check your local listings.

The first one was on February 6, 2005.

The puppies featured in the model
stadium are shelter dogs.

This year's show was filmed in west
midtown Manhattan and features 63
puppies-10 on the field at a time.

 Filming occured over two days..

Check this show out--the puppies
are ADORABLE!!!!

HAPPY WATCHING!!

Cards, Cards, Cards

For the last two years my blog friends
have joined with me to make a child's
day brighter! These children are patients
at Children's Mercy Hospitals here in the
Kansas City Metro area.
Some of them are there for a long time
and some are there for short periods of time.

One of our local radio stations sponsors
a "CARD SHOWER" each year. Cards are
made by large groups, small groups,
scrapbook stores, and many other
groups around the city.

Along with the radio station, one of
the major banks agrees to be a drop
off site and they will get the cards
to the radio station. Of course we can
also drop the cards off at the radio station.
So here's the deal gather everyone you
know and get creative. Make a bunch of
cards for these kids and make their
Valentine's Day a bright one.

Some of the "rules"
1. Keep the wishes simple. Nothing
religious, NO get well soon and must
be child appropriate.
2. No balloons, candy or small toys.
3. They MUST be handmade.
*These are suggestions from the
hospital staff.

If this sounds like fun to you, please
let me know via Dreaming or e-mail
and I'll put you on the list. In turn I'll
send you my address AND together
we WILL brighten a lot of  kid's day.
Won't you join in on the fun?????

Please have these to me at the LATEST
February 1st. This will give time for
any late arrivals and time for me to
get them to the bank. Thanks!!!!!

Yummy Good and a Head's Up

Sunday Savor is back too!
Today's recipe is soooo easy.
So pull up a chair and relax. Enjoy!!!

I need to give Ree Drummond
aka: The Pioneer Woman credit
for this recipe.

Chili Stuffed Peppers

I'm going to make this really easy.
Cause I don't need to tell YOU
how to make Chili.

Peppers (as many as you want)
cleaned out
Pot of chili (your recipe)
Toppings (we like cheese)
Fill pepper cups with chili and top
with cheese etc.
Bake in a heated 350 degree oven
until bubbly.
Serve. Told you it was easy. :)

It's that time again. Get your crafty
MOJO on.
I will be doing the Valentine Card
shower again this year! We have ball
with this and most of you asked for a
reminder ahead of time.
SO HERE IT IS :)
I will do a whole post on it tomorrow
so for those newbies to this fun activity
COME BACK TOMORROW!!

Trivia

Trivia Tuesday is ALIVE and KICKN'!

Did you know that today is:
National Hat Day?

Do you wear HATS? What kind?
Are they for outside only?

I guess I am too much of a girl cause
I don't like them messing up my hair. :)
I will wear them if it is REALLY, REALLY
cold outside otherwise no.

A neat website:
www.ehow.com lists some instructions
for celebrating National Hat Day:

1--Wear a hat
2--Make funny hats
3--Buy a new hat
4--Change hats all day
5--Talk about famous hats
(ie: Lincoln's Hat)

A Treat for Valentine's Day

Here is a fun recipe that my Sister in law made for Christmas but I think it would be fun for Valentine's Day!

Peppermint Crunch Bark

2 2/3 C (16 oz.) Bakers semi sweet chocolate, melted
3 to 5 drops Peppermint Oil
2 C (12 oz.) Bakers White Chocolate, melted
1/4 C (1 1/2 oz.) Peppermint Crunch *Andes is what she uses.

Gently melt the dark chocolate, heating it on low or over hot water until it barely melts. (Note: She melts it in a micrwave safe bowl with a lid-- much faster and easier!) Stir in the peppermint oil, then spread it into an 8 x 12" oval dish lined with parchment paper. Allow the chocolate to set but not harden completely.

Melt the white chocolate the same way, and mix it with about half the peppermint crunch. Spread over the the dark chocolate. Sprinkle with the rest of the peppermint crunch on top, pressing it in gently. Allow the candy to cool until hardened, then cut into 1 inch squares or break into chunks.

*TIP--When cocolate chips melt, they are thicker, less pourable and are generally harder to handle than melted chocolate bars or chunk. They are NOT recommended for this recipe.

Enjoy! If you try this recipe, let me know.

Late Week Dinner

For dinner this evening I
made Pork Roast Sliders.
When we were at the store,
they had the roast on sale-
I got a 1/2 pound roast for
the two of us. Mind you at
the time I had no idea what
I was going to do with it but
when I got home I came up
with the menu using stuff
I had in the freezer.
I cooked the roast yesterday
right on the stove, I let it get
real tender and then I pulled
it off the stove, let it set and
then shredded it with a fork.
I also saved some of the broth
to keep it moist for when I
reheated it tonight.

Menu

Pork Roast Sliders
Tator Tots
Corn on the Cob

I had a package of Rhodes
rolls, corn and tator tots
in the freezer.
I also heated some BBQ
sauce for Mr. Ken

Simple, easy and yummy
plus there was enough
for leftovers!

The Word

                  THE word for 2012

                  THE word for 2013

As you can see my word is:
JOY. I chose it in honor of
a friend of mine. It is her
name and she was a joy to
be around! She has been
an angel in Heaven for
fourteen years now.
During the Christmas
season I have something
that says JOY on it to remind
me of her.
As I was thinking about a new
word for this year my eyes
landed on the Christmas blocks
that say "JOY." My lightbuld went
on and I thought--that's my
word for the year!
My goal is to find joy in the
little stuff, the BIG stuff and
the stuff in between.

May 2013 bring LOTS of
JOY to all of us.
