Inquiring Minds ...

I "acquired" this from the new
neighbors. I believe it is a
nightstand. BUT I want to use
it as a side table by my chair
in our living room.
I will tell you it needed ALOT of
TLC. Ken put a new back on for me
and we had to tweek a couple of the
drawer runners but all the drawers
open and close fine now.
My question to YOU--my lovely
friends is "What would you do to
it to make it pretty?" There is alot
of partical board and veneer to
this little number. Ken's suggestion
is to take the whole top off and put
a new on on, then go from there.
In our living room, we have several
kinds of woods--we are not matchy
matchy where woods are concerned.
They are all in the medium brown
tone range though--not anything
really dark. I am also planning to
plug the existing holes from the
drawer pulls, drill new holes
(hopefully) and put new pulls on.
So....tell me your ideas. Can't wait!!!!

A Moment of Silence

I took Ken to this display on
Friday evening after I had
seen it on the the midday
news. It was more than
I expected! Ken was amazed!
We estimated about 1400 flags
displayed in this field!! Not
too many people had heard
about this display on Friday
but by Saturday evening when
we took a friend to see the flags,
there were A LOT more people
looking, talking quietly, and
taking pictures.
So many emotions run through
your body while you stand there
and look at ALL the flags flying.
What a beautiful display!
Please take time to remember...

Back to the 60's

A week or so ago--they are blending together now. We did a tie-dye project with our students. Yes, we are nuts. So we used the kit that you see above. The dye can be used on cotton, wool, viscose, rayon and silk. It comes with five squeese bottles w/ dye powder, five dye packet refills, eight gloves, forty rubber bands and instructions and idea sheet. All you do is add water and shake CAREFULLY! As you see above, we rolled our shirts in a sausage shape and then banded it into sections. You can also then roll it up to look like a cinnamon roll. That's what I did. Each of us picked our colors and then got squirting. Wear OLD CLOTHES and your GLOVES then start squirting the dye on the shirt. Have fun and get CREATIVE! After each shirt was finished, we placed them in individual zip lock bags and our primary class teacher took them home to do the rinse and dry process.
Here we are on Park Field Trip day!
Everyone's is different and it was
fun to see how they all came out.
I will say the the squeeze bottle
idea beats the tubs of water and
dunking the shirt in the dye! You
really have more control of the
dye. It really was more fun than
I anticipated!

According to the Tulip website:
Colors vary by theme. This kit sells
online for $14.00--some sites higher.
Ours came from Wal-Mart in the craft
section.

A Day at the Fair

Last Saturday went took a drive to Garnett, Ks--a small town west of where we live. They were having a "Fair on the Square." The Courthouse---booths and vendors were on the west and north sides of it. Pretty flowers for sale. Musical entertainment. A booth greeter.
A lovely vendor--check out her hat!!
Isn't this a cute way to display
rain boots? LOVE IT!
Pretty fountain.
Time is standing still.
Two of the stores on the square.
The old train Depot.
Goodies from the fair---a wallet for Ken,
a necklace for me, a magnet, a crown, a
bee keychain, and homemade noodles!
Sauces from Josephine's. Ken loves
his sauces!
Fun things from the fabric store.
A needle guide, a file, fabric piece
and bobbins-metal ones!!!! What
fun.
Here I am modeling my new apron
from the fair.
It was a beautiful day, cool in the
morning and warm in the early
afternoon. Enjoyed a lunch of
burgers, nachos and tea by the
Lions group.
We almost made it home when
the rain began. Great fun for us.

Gardens and Moms

Tomorrow is "National Public Gardens Day!"
For more information go to:
You can also go to:
These sites will give you info
on gardens in your areas that
are participating tomorrow.
The best part is it is FREE!!!!
Go check these out and take a
walk in a garden near YOU!
On a different note: I wanted
to show you what my students
made for their Mom's. "Rag"
wreaths.
I provided small hoops and
fabric which I cut into strips.
With the help of an adult, each
child help tie the fabric to the
hoops. They did a great job!
Here is the one I made. I
made mine with a print
and a solid. To make things
easier the kids used one
print. I think they are so
cute. I hope their Mom's
like them.
Happy Mom's Day !

Treasure Hunting

Yesterday we hit a neighborhood garage sale(s). Mr. Ken bought a fireplace screen, some speakers, a cassette deck to change tapes to CD's and a wood clock that looks like a guitar.
I picked up a cool clock picture,
some books, a really nice mirror
and four file boxes.
I also picked up a small purse, a
"Colonial Barbie", a large print,
a cute little Christmas tree with
ornaments and a laptop stand.
Here is the print. We
hung it in our kitchen.
I put the print where this
picture used to be and
then we moved this one to
the other side of the shelf.
Here is how it all looks together.
Looks good, don't you think?
For those of you who don't know-
this IS NOT my choice in wallpaper!
One day it will be GONE!!!
Here is the mirror in our hall.
Our bedroom is to the left of
the mirror as you look at the
picture. The room you see in
the mirror is the guest room
and at one time the house
ended there. The former
family added a large master
bedroom on at some point
and time.
The clock picture is downstairs
in the family room--didn't get a
picture of it.
Well, that is it for our treasure
hunt. Hit any sales lately?
