Florence Nightingale (1820-1910)
Quick Facts:
Best known as "The Lady with the Lamp."
Because she took care of war soldiers
during the night.
Founder of modern nursing.
Established a nursing school at St. Thomas'
Hospital in London. It was the first secular
nursing school in the world and today it is
part of King's College London.
International Nurse's Day is celebrated on
her birthday.
She was a writer--most of the information
she wrote about was medical based.
Enjoyed Math and statistics, which she
excelled in from an early age .
She used both in her work as a nurse.
Ms Nightingale passed away at 90 in her
home.
