C

C is for Communication.

How do you/we communicate?

Are you good at it?

Most of us communicate by
speaking but there are other
ways.

Gestures
Body language
Facial expressions
Paper/pencil
and of course modern day tech-
nology.

At school the majority of our
students are non-verbal. But we
also have students who have
emerging language skills.
ie: They have some language but
not always understandable to an
unfamiliar ear. It is our job to find
a way to make it understandable.

Our students use a variety of methods
to communicate with us. Pictures,
gestures, sign language and several
have communication devices, these
have several grids with pictures
to choose from. So if they want a snack
they will go to the snack page choose
what they want and ask using a sentence
via the device.

Those of our students that have verbal
skills are encouraged to use their voices
to make requests and we work with them
daily
on broadening their skills.

I realize that i have toughed on this lightly
but I am trying to keep these as short as I
can and still provide information also

If you missed A or B scroll backwards.

  1. I am better at communicating than my hubby but my facial expressions have been known to get me in trouble. :)

  2. I agree with Joy above. My face hides no emotions. But I'm much better at talking than writing. :-) Take care

    1. Mine either.
Talking is easier than writing sometimes.

      Thanks.

  3. It must take a lot of work and ingenuity to learn to speak clearly when you can't hear. Much admiration for teachers and students.

  4. Our kids find a lot of ways to communicate with us as I am sure that hearing impaired adults find their ways.
All of our students are hearing abled, they just don't have a lot of verbal skills so we find ways to help them out there.
    Thanks for stopping by!
