Where in Kansas is...?
Today we begin the blog challenge
with A and we are looking for
Atchison, Kansas.
It is situated along the western bank
of the Missouri River. Basically it is
on the border of Kansas and Missouri.
It was founded in 1854 and named
after David Rice Atchison a United
States Senator from Missouri.
Atchison was the original terminus
of the Atchison Topeka and Sante Fe
Railway.
Atchison, Kansas was the birthplace
of Amelia Earhart.
Ms. Earhart was the first female aviator
to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean.
She was known in her field as an
"American Aviation Pioneer."
While trying to fly all the way around
the globe, Ms. Earhart's plane disappeared
over the Pacific Ocean on July 2, 1937.
Stop by tomorrow, we will be in Missouri
looking for B.
