Today we will tour some of the
beautiful gardens in and around
the city limit.
Up first is:
The Overland Park Arboretum
and Botanical Garden. This
beautiful place is actually
located in south Overland
Park Ks. It is a 300 acre
property, founded to keep
the city at "the forefront of
environmental and ecological
issues." The gardens provide
visitors with educational,
recreational and cultural
experiences. Self guided
tours also allow visitors to
go through the gardens at
their own pace. There are
many hiking tours also.
The gardens play host to
many fields trips plus
seasonal programs and
events. Visitors may also
rent the Arboretum for
special events. Depending
on your time schedule, one
can expect to spend 1-2 hrs
exploring the gardens and
grounds. Maybe more!
Our next stop is The Ewing
and Muriel Kauffman
Memorial Garden.
This is a beautiful 2 acre
garden and learning
environment smack dab in
the city.
Powell Gardens partners
with the Kauffman Found
ation to maintain and manage
the garden. Since this is a
smaller garden, one could
spend 1/2-1 hr exploring BUT
you could enjoy a picnic lunch
there too making the visit that
much more fun!
Our last stop for today
is Powell Gardens, located
in southeastern portion of
the KC city limits.
The gardens encompass
915 acres! It is Kansas City's
botanical garden.
Strolling through the garden
gate you as the visitor will get
to feast your eyes on a variety
of gardens, nature trails and
architecture-The Visitor's
Center, The Chapel and The
Meadow Pavillion to name
three. Visitors can also sign
up for classes that are available
year round these are listed
on their calendar of events.
This would be an ALL DAY
experience-one that you WILL
enjoy!
If you are visiting our fair
city make time to visit one
of these beautiful places.
They are a feast for your eyes!

Wow, those gardens are amazing!!! How lucky are you to be able to wander through and smell all the beautiful flowers.
ReplyDeleteWell, enjoy the flowers. I do love taking pictures of flowers. I've been to the New York City Horticultural Gardens (whatever it's called) and it's a treat but it can be long and HOT. We're hot over here in Connecticut. Hope you share all your pictures. Best wishes, Linda
ReplyDeleteI love both of these gardens and visit as often as I can!!
