Having Fun
Today's trivia continues
yesterday's "picnic"
theme.
Picnics are social events
involving food, families,
friends and fun. They
take place at parks, beaches,
festivals, backyards, tailgates
and many other places.
The word "picnic" was first
introduced in English in 1748.
The 19th century brought the
"Picnic Society" a wealthy
group of Londoners promoting
socal affairs. Each attendee
was expected to bring a dish.
The middle of the century
was when picnics were
associated with the outside.
Picnics can range from
casual, cozy or grand
affairs. The food can be
served on paper plates
or china. Whatever is
chosen the main ingred-
ient to a picnic is FUN!
Have a picnic today and
have FUN!

Great Ideas from....
As I was looking through this
issue I ran across this idea:
Pack a "ready to go "picnic basket
and leave in your car for those
impromptu picnics. Add a blanket,
pick up food on the way and you
have the makings for a great
outing.
Miss Martha recommends having
ready in your basket:
Dishes/Plates
Glasses
Flatware
Pocketknife
Serving Spoons
Corkscrew
S&P
Napkins
Wet wipes
I recommend:
Plastic bags for trash
in case there isn't a trash
bin available
Wet washcloths in ziplock
bags ( to do before you leave)
She also has neat ideas for
using bandanas. My thought
is using the inexpensive ones
and not the 0nes for $12.50
at Levis.

Flag Day 2011
Today is Flag Day!
*******************
In 1776, George Washington
and two members of the
Continental Congress asked
a young widow in her 20's---
Betsy Ross to make the first
American flag. She made it
with 13 stars in a circle shape.
*******************************
We have celebrated Flag Day
every June 14th since 1949
as requested by Congress.
*******************************
The 1st official celebration
was in 1877.
In 1916, President Wilson
signed a proclamation that
called for a nationwide
observance on June 14th.
*******************************
According to the original
Continental Congress:
Red--stood for Hardiness
and Courage.
White--stood for Purity
and Innocence.
Blue--stood for Vigilance
and Justice.
********************************
The 13 stars and stripes
represent the 13 American
colonies. Today we still have
13 stripes but we now have 50
stars to represent the 50 states
of the Union.

TODAY...
Hello~~~
I spent the better part of the afternoon
debating which to post--Sunday Savor
or our grocery store trip. The store won
out.
We began our journey in the cafe,
intending on having lunch. After
we paid and found a table, I looked
up and there is this woman and
her teenage children going to the
deli in their swimsuits! Now I know
this is not unsual BUT in my opinion
one should have more on than a
sleeveless muscle shirt and their
suit on at the store. Especially when
one is a "bit" on the heavy side and
body parts are spilling out the sides
of the suit! Shorts would have been
great too. On with lunch we went.
As we were eating delish salads and
fruits, Ken and I decided that since
it was so hot today that pretty much
NOONE cared what they looked like.
Most everyone we saw had some form
of swimwear on with bodyparts
hanging out.
Just wondering----???
Do people not look at themselves
in the mirror before going out in
public??? I realize also that
everyone has days when they
just don't care--I have them but
it just seemed like EVERYONE
had that feeling today. It's just
too HOT!!!!
Our next adventure at the store
involved me. A fellow shopper
tried to pick me up--not literally
but you know. I was nice but
moved quickly over to Ken who
was at the meat counter. The guy
went on his merry way and we
continued to shop. Shopping
was accomplished and we
went home to take naps!
Our trip to the store is usually
not as eventful as today, but it
sure made things interesting!!!
:) :) :) :)
