Twas three days before Christmas and I
am posting!
Stockings are an integral part of Christ-
mas. Where to hang them, how to hang
them, names on them, themes etc.
I found this article with interesting info
in the December '18 issue of Better
Homes and Gardens.
Title of the article:
Throwback 1930 Stockings
The ritual of hanging stockings began
with the tale of St Nick sliding gold coins
down the chimney and into the stockings
of those in need.
In the 1930 issue, regular stockings
were hung on a mantle for the photo-
shoot on stockings but flashy ones were
on the horizon.
Flash forward to today. Stockings come
in many forms on a higher standard than
your everyday stocking.
Where do you hang your stockings?
Are they the same every year?
Do you use themes?
Do you hang stockings for just immediate
family or everyone in your family.
We hang ours from drawer knobs on a side
table in our living room
They are the same (mostly) from year to
year.
Themes not so much.
We just hang stockings for us.
I hope that your stockings are hung by your
chimney with care.

Interesting post! I made Christmas stockings for each of our sons and grandson too when they were born, all different, but all with embroidery, sequins, etc. They are unique for sure and hung every Christmas. Merry Christmas to you and Mr. Ken!
ReplyDeleteThey sound lovely. I'm sure they hold special memories too.
DeleteWe had a very nice Christmas. Hope yours was special.

We hang them from the top of the A/C closet doors. No themes for us and there are three -- one for me, one for my husband, and one for Max, the chocolate lab. Merry Christmas to you and Mr. Ken, Melinda!
ReplyDeleteLove that you have one for Max.
DeleteOur Christmas was nice. Hope yours
was too!

We hang stockings for everyone coming to spend Christmas Day with us. This year it will be me and Dan, our son-in-law and grandkids, and our son and his husband. We each have our own stockings -- they are a mish-mash of designs -- and I've been thinking about getting a matching set for the whole family at some point. We don't have a fireplace in this house :( so I hang them wherever I have space, and when they're filled, Santa leaves them lined up on the love seat, because they are too heavy to hang. :) Fun post!
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed the post!
DeleteSounds like you have quite a few
to place around the house...
good idea that Santa puts them on the love seat.
Hope your Christmas was fun!

I have a great Christmas stocking story on my blog from years ago - I think you might remember it my friend!
ReplyDeleteI will have to come by and check that out.

We have quilted stockings and have had them ever since our daughters were little girls.
ReplyDeleteHow fun that you still have stockings from when the girls were little.
DeleteHappy New Year!
