Time to Remember

Remembering those who fought
for our freedom and those who
fight today to keep us safe.

Also remembering our family
and friends who have gone
before us.

Have a blessed day.

Prayer Requests

A fellow blogger needs our prayers.
Nezzy at Cow Patty Surprise is
going to Brownsville, Texas
tomorrow to be with her Mom
is is very ill. She has been in the
hospital for awhile and is not getting
better. Please say a little prayer for
her and her Mom when you say your
prayers.

Also, as most of you know, there
was a very destructive tornado
in Moore, OK today. It tore the
town apart. Two schools were
destroyed, of course this hits
close to my heart.
Please pray for the residents of
Moore, the first responders, the
families of the students and the
families of the staff.
It breaks my heart to see the
devastation, especially when
there is a school involved.

Thank you for being such great
blog friends.

Button Button Who has the Button?

Things to do with Buttons

ID Towels

Sew a different colored button
on a corner of each towel
and  give each person a
specific color.

Make Pretty Magnets

Repurpose vintage or
decorative buttons  from
jackets and sweaters. Glue
a small magnet or flathead
thumbtack to the back of
each, and use them to
hold important items.

Sub for Game Pieces

Have you lost the shoe to
your Monoply game?
Replace it with a button
and carry on.

Pair up Earrings

Push posts through the
holes of a button to keep
pairs together at all times.

Level Furniture

Slip a button under the
shortest leg to make it
stable.

Arrange Flowers

Keep thin stems standing
straight by slipping them
through a button with large
holes. Position the button
under two or more flowers
so thet stay grouped in
the vase.

** Fun Fact

At one time, fancy buttons
indicated social status. Rumor
has it that during his life-
time, King Louis IV  of
France spent over $5 million
(based on today's dollars)
on buttons.

Tulip Trivia

Since it is Spring and
I think most of us are
having Spring weather,
I thought that we would
look at a Spring favorite.
THE TULIP!
Tulip's are native to
Central Asia, including
Turkey-where the tulip
is the National Flower.
The English word Tulip
is derived from a Persian
word-dulband. Which means
turban.The flower was seen
as a turban shaped, hence
the name.

The tulip is a perennial,
bulbous plant with flowers
in the genus Tulipa of
which 109 species have been
developed.
They are divided into early,
mid and late season bloomers.
To keep the color coming,
choose some from each group.
Holland produces over 3
billion tulip bulbs each
year.
They are the 3rd biggest
selling flower in Holland as
well as the UK.

Tulips are the only flower
that continues to grow in
a vase (up to 3") after
being cut.
They also are known to
conform to the container
or vase they are put in.
Tulips are so popular that
many festivals are held
in their honor.
In a 2009 survey on color
preference by men and
women the order of prefer-
ence.

Men

Red
Yellow
Pale Pink
Hot Pink
White
Purple

Women

Pale Pink
Hot Pink
Peach
Red
Yellow

What is your favorite
Tulip??

Gettn' Ready for summer

For Sunday Savor, I
have two really simple
recipes, they are both
perfect for Summer!
Yes, Summer will arrive
sometime for those of
us still dealing with cool/
wet temps.

Mango-Raspberry Salsa
From: Hy-Vee Grocery
Kitchen

2 mangos, diced
2 pints fresh red
raspberries
1/2 c finely diced
red onion
1 T chopped cilantro
Juice of a 1/4 lime
Zest of 1/2 lemon
Zest of 1/2 orange
1/4 tsp cayenne
pepper
1/2 tsp sugar
Salt to taste

Combine all ingred-
ients in a large
bowl and toss.

Ice Cream Chocolate
Shell
From: Midwest Living
Makes 21 servings

1 11 or 12 ounce pack-
age of  baking pieces
(Flavor of your choice)
1/4 C coconut oil or
vegetable oil *

Place ingredients in a
medium microwave
safe bowl: stir. Cook on
50% power (medium)
for 1 minute; stir.
Continue to cook
at 30
second intervals, stirring
after each, until almost
melted. Remove and stir
until completely melted.
Pour over ice-cream;
allow to harden 30-60
seconds.

Store in a glass jar at
room temperature for up
to 1 week. To reheat,
uncover and microwave on
50 % power about 40
seconds or until softened,
but not warm; stir and pour
on your ice-cream.

*Coconut oil looks like
shortening and hardens fast
when chilled. Can be  found
in health food stores or large
supermarkets.
Vegetable oil works too, but
the testers liked the subtle
coconut flavor.

WHAT????? CRAZY!!!!

Yes, Dorothy we ARE in
Kansas!

Snow!!! That's right. On
the Hosta.

In the neighbor's yard.

The deck.

The front yard. If you look
closely you can see the
flakes flying past
the camera!

We could set a record
tomorrow, if we get 1.8
inches. 100 years ago
tomorrow we had over
an inch of snow here in
Kansas City! Oh boy!!!

The metro are is under a
Winter Weather Advisory
also. Unbelievable I tell ya!
Mother Nature needs some
help!!

I guess one day we will resume
regular programing of Spring

weather.
