Happy Halloween!!!!

Hi! I'm baaaack to show you what Ken and Melinda are up to for Halloween. They thought I was watching the Ghoster Hunter's Marathon but......I wasn't--I took these pics of their costumes that they dressed up as to hand out candy. Sneaky, Aren't I????
Monopoly---What are they doing playing games right now!!!!
Oh.....that's Melinda's costume! She a Monopoly game!
I hope she didn't use the good game board and pieces!
She'll have some "splaining" to do!
Who is Bob and when did Ken become his assistant?
When did Bob Villa come to our house???
Oh, that is Ken's costume--he must be Bob the Builder's
assistant! Cool tools Ken!!!!!
The candy bowl is ready for the trick-or-treaters. I may
need to go down and see if there is anything I like. Yum.
Here is our favorite neighbor gardener--Mikela. Love the
Boa! What a fashion Diva!!!
Please scroll down for a post that Melinda did on her
seasonal/holiday decor. Who knows I may make another
appearance.

Fall/Halloween Decor----Post 2

Hi! It's me Casper-I'm back to take you on a decor tour for the holiday/season. Follow me please.
We'll start here with my friend in the Pumpkin patch
hanging out in Melinda's kitchen.
This little arrangement is at the top of the stairs, Melinda has
an old radio that was her Mom's and these cuties are sitting on
the radio.
Here's a little sign of the times. Let's move on.
Melinda decided to hang this bag up this year.
Melinda's new sign this year.
Here we are in the living room with some new pumpkins.
My friend Jack will be put away till next year but the
others will hang out until Thanksgiving.
Over on the TV, Melinda has some new fall friends. The
pumpkins are from school. One of the ladies embellished
them with beads.
Our last stop is the dining room, this is Melinda's "office"area.
We have another Jack and some wooden candy corn.
Our tour concludes here, we hope EVERYONE had a
wonderful Halloween. Thanks for stopping by. BOO!!!!!

Halloween Humor

Halloween Jokes: Why didn't the skeleton cross the road? He didn't have any guts. What kind of music do mummies listen to? Wrap. What kind of monster is safe to put in the washing machine? A wash-and-wear wolf. What's the first thing ghosts do when they get in the car? They boo-kle their seatbelts. How did the ghost patch his sheet? With a pumpkin patch. What do witches use on their hair? Scare Spray. What do the bird's sing on Halloween? Twick or Tweet.
Could it be that those trick-or-treaters wearing
sheets, aren't going as ghosts but as MATTRESSES?
****George Carlin****
Top 10 signs you are too old for trick-or-treating:
10. You get winded from knocking on the door. 9. You have to have someone else chew your candy. 8. You ask for high fiber candy ONLY. 7. When someone drops a candy bar in your bag, you loose your balance and fall over. 6. People say,"Great Keith Richard's mask!" and your not wearing a mask. 5. When the door opens you yell, "Trick or...." and you can't remember the rest. 4. By the end of the night, you have a bag full of retraining orders. 3. You have to carefully choose a costume that won't dislodge your hairpiece. 2. You're the only Power Ranger in the neighborhood with a walker. Drumroll please..... The number 1 reason: You avoid going to the houses of your ex-wives. One more day until the GREAT PUMPKIN arrives. I hope everyone has their treats to hand out and their costumes ready. We still have some tweaking on both ends BUT we WILL be ready for ALL those Trick- or -Treaters that arrive tomorrow night! ~Keep on Dreaming~

The Big Question??????

We are two days shy of Halloween and I know a lot of you are still working on the all important COSTUME! I think for most of us the word "Halloween" scares the wits out of us because right away the big question is......What or who will I be for the big day?

Spooky, Spooky

It's Wednesday and one of our favorite shows is on tonight! We get the biggest kick out of "GHOST HUNTERS"--with the guys and gals from TAPS--"The Atlantic Paranormal Society." Jason and Grant are two plumbers for Roto- Rooter by day and ghosts hunters when a situation arises. Chris calls the guys with a new place to go investigate, they gather the team and off they go. They go all over the US , overseas and now Canada. Most of the places they investigate have a historical significance but homes , stores museums etc. are checked out. They use DVR recorders, high resolution cameras and other equipment to record voices and images. We've been watching this crazy show since the Labor Day marathon was on. The 7:00 pm hour has been the older shows and the 8:00 pm hour has been shows from this season. The two shows that stick out for me was one when door in a prison kitchen actually opened AND shut by itself! When they tried to open it there was some resistance as if someone was on the other side. And then there was the show when they were at a Military Prison turned museum and there was a room set up like a bedroom-the claim was that people have seen the rocker rock on it's own. Didn't get to see that but as Jason was knocking on the window it appeared that someone knocked back and of course NO ONE was there! Skeptics would say that there are people not seen doing these things to make you believe in paranormal activity. The show has given Ken and I goosebumps several times whether you believe or not it is a fun show! You can catch a Halloween marathon this Saturday on SYFY. Check your local listings.
In the October issue of "Coastal Living" there is an
article on America's Spookiest Lighthouses. A very
interesting read.
Here are the ones they list:
Heceta Head Lighthouse--Yachats, Oregon
Point Sur Lightstation--Big Sur, California
Owls Head Light--Owls Head, Maine
Point Lookout Light--Scotland, Maryland
St. Simons Island Lighthouse--St. Simons Island,
Georgia
Port Boca Grande Lighthouse--Gasparilla Island,
Florida
Happy watching and reading.

Halloween Trivia

This week we have a special Halloween Trivia post! One thought on Halloween: The observance of Halloween which dates back to Celtic rituals thousands of years ago, has long been associated with images of witches, ghosts, devils and goblins. Over the years, Halloween customs and rituals have changed dramatically and today the holiday has taken on a more light spirited approach. Trick or Treat: *Halloween is the second busiest selling season for retailers. It is a 7 billion dollar industry. *36 million trick or treaters were estimated for 2008. Most are children 5-13, but younger and older ones trick or treat too. *Chocolate makes up about 3/4's of the take home loot, according to the National Confectioners Assoc. *Candy corn has been made with the same recipe by the Jelly Belly Candy Company since around 1900. *Leftover candy can be chopped up and used in place of chocolate chips in cookie recipes. Second thought on Halloween: All Hallow's Eve, began as an ancient Celtic and later Roman harvest festival. When the Irish immigrated to the US in the 1800's, they brought with them a Halloween tradition-- lighting candles in turnips to keep the spirits at bay. Finding turnips in short supply in America, however, they began carving pumpkins and thus the Jack-o-lantern was born. Places to put you in the Halloween spirit: >>Transylvania County, N.C. >>Tombstone, AZ. >>Pumpkin Center, N.C. >>Pumpkin Bend, ARK. >>Cape Fear in New Hanover County, N.C. >>Cape Fear in Chatham County, N.C. >>Skull Creek, Neb. The last thought on Halloween: The Halloween customs bserved on Oct. 31st had their beginnings long ago. They came from the beliefs of the druids-- priests of ancient Gaul and Britain. The druids believed that witches, demons, and spirits of the dead roamed the earth on the eve of November 1st. Bonfires were lit to drive the bad spirits away. To protect themselves the druids offered the spirits goodies to eat. They also disguised themselves, that way the spirits would think the druids belonged to their own evil company. So, today WE celebrate Halloween by "tricking or treating," dressing up and wearing masks. A Delicious Dining Experience !

Friday evening brought together Ken and I plus Nancy
at Acorn Cottage and her daughter. As you can see we
went to an Orthodox Church for dinner.
The flyer from the church's webpage shows just a sampling of what they had on the menu. Ken and I
each enjoyed the Russian meal and Nancy and her daughter tried the Lebanese meal.
Our meal started with a vegetable type soup then there
was salad, a cabbage roll served on a bed of wild rice
and a slice of brown bread we also had a round puffy
pastry with powdered sugar on it. Deeeeelightful!
Nancy's meal had what she called "Lebanese meat
loaf", rice with green beans, salad, pita bread and
the same pastry Ken and I had.
Now you must realize that we were ALL stuffed to the
hilt BUT we made the supreme sacrifice and waddled
over to the "Pastry Sale." Some of the items available were: (see menu above)
Baklava (Greek and Syrian)
Russian Tea Cookies
Ethiopian Bread
Needless to say we had fun, we were full AND we took
home "to go boxes" full of goodies.
I can't wait for next year!

Pretty Colors

In honor of the upcoming holiday---today's Trivia is about gum/bubblegum.
Look at all those pretty colors! How many times in your
life have you put that quarter in the machine for that
magical ball of gum. ME--too many to count!
Trival facts about GUM::
The first patent for chewing gum was issued in 1869 to
William F. Semple, a DENTIST from Mount Vernon,
Ohio.
There are more than 1,000 varieties of gum
manufactured and sold in the US.
There are over 40 different chewing gum brands
listed on Wikipedia. Check it out. A lot are familiar but
there are some I didn't recognize:
Aidin
Boomers
Chewels
Gloria
Jenkki
Kallas
Razzles
Spry
Tidal Wave
Vibe Energy Gum
Xylit.All
Zoft Gum
Cinnamon, Spearmint, and Peppermint are the most
popular flavors of gum.
The average American chews around 300 sticks of gum
in a year.
Trival facts about BUBBLE GUM:
Do you know why gum is pink? Because pink was the
only color the inventor had left. The color "stuck" and
today bubble gum is mostly pink.
North American kids spend approximately half a billion
dollars on bubble gum a year.
100,000 tons of bubble gum are chewed a year.
Bubble Yum is the Official Gum of Major League
Baseball.
Susan M. Williams is the Guinness Record holder
of the world's largest bubble--23 inches in diameter.
The record was set on July 19, 1994.
Getting gum off clothes--scrape off any excess with a
dull knife and then rub the area with ice until the
remaining gum rolls off into a ball.
The impossible has been done and now, YOU can try
it TOO!!! This has been done while blowing a bubble:
Smiling through your teeth, frowning, laughing out of
the bottom of your mouth, side of your mouth, top of
your mouth, while kissing something and while blowing your nose.*****IF YOU TRY ANY OF THESE -IT WILL
AT YOUR OWN RISK!!! I don't want to see any of your
faces plastered with bubble gum on your blogs!!!!!! :)
The winner of my GIVEAWAY will be revealed
tomorrow!!!! Stay tuned.

Injury Update

Thank you to everyone who have left get well wishes. As most of you know I had an injury at school while dealing with a renagade child who decided that he needed to leave his classroom. (See Tuesday) This is the quick version of what happened. I was filling in in another classroom and we were getting the kids ready for lunch when said child decided to leave the room. So off I went after him out the door and down the hall -as he got ready to turn the corner I reached out to grab him and tripped, falling forward and hitting my head on the wall, as I fell I also twisted my back. BUT I still had a hold of the darling child! My principal heard me hollering and came to my rescue. Skip to what the Workman's Comp. Dr. said. I have a contusion on my head and a sprained back. I will go back tomorrow for a follow up to see how I'm doing plus I may have to have some physical therapy. Who knows??? I stayed home yesterday due to stiffness and my head was still tender. I did go back today but it was slooooooooooooow going. No kids tomorrow so I'll have a quiet day! I'll be back kicking soon--thanks again for all your concern, it means a lot!! ~Keep on Dreaming~

Favorite New Show

Last night my favorite new show had it's season finale.
Diva is a lighweight comedy/drama that is creatively
written.
It's about a fashion model who dies in a car wreck. She
is then reincarnated into the body of Jane Bingham.
Jane is an attorney for a Chicago based law firm.
The show follows Jane as she becomes accustomed
to Deb being a part of her. Deb was a little flighty
compared to Jane who is more serious.
Some of the characters you meet are Stacey-Deb's
friend, Jane's assistant, Jane's heaven connection-Fred
and some of Jane's coworkers. THEN
Deb's fiance shows up to work for the firm and
we follow Jane as she tries not to divulge that she
IS really his fiance Deb.
If you are looking for a fun show to watch, this is it!
Since the finale was last night you can now watch
Season One on Lifetime.com and look for Season Two
on Lifetime TV.

Cool and Comfortable

Today's temperature got around 44 and it may get down in "balmy" 20's overnight! We finally broke down and cranked the furnace on, we were trying to hold out for a couple of more days, but we couldn't do it! When it turns cooler / cold my thoughts go to being cozy and comfortable. The sweats, hoodies, long sleeve T's and the slippers come out to play. I also start thinking about what foods will make our tummies cozy and confortable. Below we have the perfect example of comfort! Sweats and animal print slippers. Now my fashionista friends this dynamic duo is licensed, patented and insured so I don't want to see copies of this duo on your blogs. Since we were going for comfort, I decided to make pancakes. Now you have to realize that I don't make breakfast often but pancakes sounded soooooooo good. I love this little invention Shake 'n Pour Pancakes. Just add water, shake and pour. How much easier can you get. They were DELISH!
Don't they look DELISH??? A little butter
and syrup and your good to go. Oh, Yeah!
For dinner we had the ultimate in "comfort"
foods. Meatloaf, mashed potatoes,
corn and rolls!
May the rest of your weekend be comfortable.

Priceless Observations, Part 2

It's a dark, wet and dreary day here in Kansas. ***Melinda*** Last week, I stated this woman was the ugliest woman I had ever seen. I have since been visited by her sister, and now wish to withdrew that statement. ***Mark Twain*** The secret of a good sermon is to have a good beginning and a good ending; and to have the two as close together as possible. ***George Burns*** Santa Claus has the right idea. Visit people once a year. ***Victor Borge*** I was married by a judge. I should have asked for a jury. ***Groucho Marx*** My wife has a slight impediment in her speech. Every now and then she stops to breathe. ***Jimmy Durante*** By all means, marry. If you get a good wife, you'll become happy; if you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher. ***Socrates*** Only Irish coffee provides in a single glass all four essential food groups: alcohol, caffeine, sugar and fat. ***Art Levine*** Money can't buy you happiness...But it does bring you a more pleasant form of misery. ***Scott Milligan*** Until I was thirteen, I thought my name was SHUT UP. ***Joe Namath*** By the time a man is wise enough to watch his step, he's too old to go anywhere. ***Billy Crystal*** And the cardiologist's diet: If it tastes good spit it out! Hope you have enjoyed part 1 and 2. If you missed part 1 go back a couple of Thursdays--I believe. M ~Keep on Dreaming~
