C--Crochet (ing)
It is not clear where the exact origins
of Crochet began but some believe it
evolved from practices in Iran, South
America or China.
Crocheting is a process of creating
fabric by interlocking loops of yarn
or thread and pulling them through
a loop with a hook.
Crocheting has seen many ups and
downs in the practice. It was popular
between 1910 and 1920, the 30's saw a
loss of interest in the hobby, from the
late 40's to the 60's there was a renewed
interest in using items made in home
décor, in the late 60's and 70's granny
squares became the popular item to
crochet, another decline took place but
interest picked up again in the early 21st
century. We have seen more interest
again in handcrafts and DIY project of
late and more people are picking up the
hobby again.

Baby clothes/Booties
Blankets
Potholders

I have tried to learn how to
crochet several times but have
given up because I cannot get the
hang of the of that first loop.

B--Beads(ing)
A bead is a small decorative object that
is made into a variety of shapes and sizes.
Each one has a hole in it for threading.
Some are small some are large. Beads are
used for a variety of purposes. The most
common are bracelets and necklaces. We
also see beadwork on clothing.
Beads are known to be one of the earliest
forms of trade between the human race. It
is thought that the trading of beads helped
with development of language. Beads have
been traded for a very long time. The oldest
known beads were found at Ksar Akil in
Lebanon. Before that beads discovered in
the Blombos Cave were the oldest at 72,000
years old.
In many parts of the world beads are used
for a variety of purposes.
Rosary beads-used during prayer, Roman
Catholics
Misbaha-used during prayer, Muslims
Worry beads-relief of tension
Aggrey beads-used as currency, Ghana
Beads come in a variety of shapes.
Round
Square or cubed
Oval
Tube
They are also made from a variety of
materials:
Bone
Stone
Glass
Shell
Plastic
Wood
Pearl
Do you use beads? I have quiet a collection.
I use them for jewelry making mostly,
primarily bracelets but I have made some
necklaces.

History of Crafting.
A--Applique
It is a design technique that adds a
decorative design to background
fabric. The term comes from the
French word appliquer and the
Latin word applicare that means
to attach or join. Back in the day
applique was used more for
prolonging an items life
than decorating it. As time has
moved on, the interest in applique
developed into a more creative art
form.
To applique, one lays pieces of fabric
on top of the background fabric to
create a pattern or picture.
The ancient Egyptians used applique
on on their clothing and household
items.
In the Middle Ages, applique would be
found on banners and ceremonial
clothing.
During the 18th-19th centuries, applique
was found festival costumes and ethnic
folk dress.
In the 20th century, the Irish dance
costume was relatively unadorned in the
50's but became a costume that was heavily
adorned garment by the end of the century.
The poodle skirt of the mid 50's, was a felt
circle skirt with a poodle or another design
appliqued on the bottom edge as we are
familiar with.
In the 60's, the flower children decorated
their garments with appliques.
Today we see applique on clothing, home
décor, costumes and much more.
Many fashion designers use applique on
their designs. Bob Mackie and Gianni
Versace are two familiar ones.
Applique can be done by hand or on a
machine.

Ooops! Yesterday came and went so
