A

Today we start THE CHALLENGE.

Since April is Autism Awareness Month

we will start with:

A is for Autism.

Autism is "a neurodevelopmental

disorder characterized by impared
social interaction, verbal and nonverbal
communication and restrictive and
repetitive behavior."
~~ from Wikipedia.

Stats:

*1 in 68 children are diagnosed with the

disorder.
*1 in 42 boys in the US have the disorder.
*Since 2006 that is a 62% increase and
since 2008 stats show a 29% increase
in children with this disorder.
*Most insurance companies do not
cover treatment or therapies for these
children and families.
*Those diagnosed do not have to have
all the indicators to be diagnosed with
Autism.
*Children and their families with Autism
need support and understanding.

These are the children and families see

at school everyday. Each day is different,
some days are uneventful and class work
gets done but there are days when we just
maintain because our charges are having
tough times.
These children are truly a joy to work with
because when a goal is met we celebrate,
when it takes a bit to meet that goal we
continue to work toward achievement of
that goal.

So when you are out and about and you

see someone (parent or child) struggling
move on and say a prayer for them. It is
not easy for either of them.
