Saturday Sightings

On Saturday, we went with Ken's dad and some friends to a small town Rantoul, Kansas--population slightly under 200 people for dinner. One of the gals that went with us has family in the area and they knew about the place we went. Next door to the Fire Dept. was a cozy restaurant called "The Soft Rock Cafe." The porch had cute planters made from repurposed items, potted plants on little chairs and other cute stuff sittng around the porch. The cafe is a well known place by the locals for a great buffet dinner! They were serving a catfish/ boiled shrimp and fried chicken buffet. There was fried potatoes, green beans, cabbage, baked beans, cream gravy and two types of bread. Then.....you could move on to the salad bar part of the buffet! There was tossed salad with fixings, COLE SLAW according to Ken, chocolate and vanilla pudding. THEN...there was dessert! Chocolate cake, chocolate cherry cake AND brownies to choose from. Oh, Yea was it good!!!!! Down the road from the cafe was this "junkyard " for old airplanes, I tried to get a pic of the name but it came out blurry. Bummer!!! Anyway--on both sides of the road were these planes just sitting there. According to Ken's Dad, they take all the good parts from the old planes and use them on planes that are still in service. In the pic above, off the the left in the valley you could see alot of parts and pieces of planes.
It was fun seeing all of the planes
just sitting in the farm fields hanging
out. A good way to use an old plane!
One never knows what is down the
road.

A Day at the Fair

Last Saturday went took a drive to Garnett, Ks--a small town west of where we live. They were having a "Fair on the Square." The Courthouse---booths and vendors were on the west and north sides of it. Pretty flowers for sale. Musical entertainment. A booth greeter.
A lovely vendor--check out her hat!!
Isn't this a cute way to display
rain boots? LOVE IT!
Pretty fountain.
Time is standing still.
Two of the stores on the square.
The old train Depot.
Goodies from the fair---a wallet for Ken,
a necklace for me, a magnet, a crown, a
bee keychain, and homemade noodles!
Sauces from Josephine's. Ken loves
his sauces!
Fun things from the fabric store.
A needle guide, a file, fabric piece
and bobbins-metal ones!!!! What
fun.
Here I am modeling my new apron
from the fair.
It was a beautiful day, cool in the
morning and warm in the early
afternoon. Enjoyed a lunch of
burgers, nachos and tea by the
Lions group.
We almost made it home when
the rain began. Great fun for us.

A Fun Evening

Mr. Ken and I had a wonderful date night! We started out at Cheddar's for dinner. Oh! Yummy :) After dinner we went to our local high school for the evening's performance of Thoroughly Modern Millie. This was one of THE BEST productions for a high school that I have seen. If I had been dropped down into my seat, closed my eyes and listened, I would have thought I was listening to a group of adults! These kids were super great. As I stated in my previous post, our neighbor's daughter was in this and she did a wonderful job as a Flapper! It was nice to get out and just be with each other for the evening! Thanks for our fun date Mr. Ken. ~Keep on Dreaming~

A Day at the Lake

Yesterday we went to the LAKE! Yes, I said the lake. I know it is Winter but our temps were in the 60's! In January--can you believe it? We decided to explore a lake that we had not been to. Wyandotte lake is north of where we live. Imagine a southerly breeze, warm sun and beautiful winter nature to look at. Enjoy!
Geese! LOTS of them!
Just letting the lake
bob them along.
If you look close at the above
photo, you can see where the
lake is still frozen from our
last cold spurt.
What fun we had exploring!
It was great to be outside w/o
a coat and enjoy the beauty of
winter on a 60 degree day in
January!!!
Hope you enjoyed your visit!

Labor Day Fun

Yesterday we took a trip
to Hillsdale, KS known for
BBQ and the lake.
We spent part of the afternoon
on the beach at the lake. It was
a beautiful day but a little cool,
some braved the water though.
Below are some of the pics we
took of our outing.
What a fun time we had. Just
enjoying the weather and
people watching. We brought
snacks and drinks for our after-
noon at the lake.
We arrived home happy, tired and
sun/wind burned. We will go again,
maybe not this year but next summer
is definite!
