Big Celebration!

Today we had the pleasure of  celebrating a
big birthday in the family!

Mr. Ken's Uncle (on the right) will be 90
tomorrow! He is talking to Mr. Ken's Dad,
the baby brother to the birthday guy.

This is Mr.  Ken's  Aunt Rozella, Dad's older
sister.

The motley crew. Ha!!
Loren, Rozella's husband, Rozella, Mr. Ken, Dad
and Uncle Arnie--the birthday guy.

So fun to see this portion of the family and to
celebrate such a milestone. Uncle Arnie is a
sweet guy.

Hope everyone is doing well. I have a week and
half left of school and the some time off!

Things of the Past

Hello! Hope everyone is having an awesome
Wednesday!

I ran across an interesting article on Family
Heirlooms in one of my Country Living
Magazines.

The article was titled "12 Ideas For Family
Heirlooms."
With most of us hanging at home and cleaning
our areas of "clutter," maybe you have ran across
things that you are not ready to give up yet.

Here are some of the ideas:

1. Turn pins or brooches into napkin rings by
looping thread through the bar pin then tie
around your napkins.

2. Use old silver coasters as Placecards.
Paint part of the coaster with chalk paint.
Write names with erasable chalk markers.

3. Arrange old photos in a "Family Tree" in a
shadow box. Draw a simple tree shape on
watercolor paper, cut the paper to size of your
box frame. Paint the tree with watercolor paints.
Add mini clothespins with hot glue then clip pics
on the pins.

4. Display odds and ends in a Cloche.
They could be person specific too.

5. Turn baking tins into frames for recipes.
Print out old favorites, cut card stock to fit
your pan or tin. Glue to the inside of tin then
glue your recipes inside of the pan or tin.
Hang up using adhesive strips. These could
be pie pans or tart tins.
Another use for old faves is mod podging
recipes to the outside of a wooden recipe
box. A recipe could also be put inside the lid.
Make copies of the recipes unless they aren't
meaningful to you.

6. If you have a torn or stained quilt that you
can't part with, choose the "good" areas to
stretch over canvas for wall hangings.

So, as you are "going through things" maybe
some of these will work for you.

Happy Friday!

Hello! Hope everyone is doing well!

No school today, happy for a day off.
Got to spend some time with friends
today, lots of fun and laughter shared
as we enjoyed a BBQ lunch.

Our numbers keep going up so this
might be the last time I gather with
friends for awhile.
Nothing has been said but I feel it
coming. Came home to Mr. Ken still
working but able to spend time with
him as he worked. We have decide to
spend Thanksgiving hanging at home,
as I think each family unit in our family
will do. It was a hard necessary decision
to make.

Family is utmost right now. So are friends.
It is so hard to be apart from either group
but we want everyone to be safe.

My hope for you is that you are healthy,
safe but still see family and friends via
the internet.

Have a great weekend!

Humps and Bumps in the Road

Hello Everyone.
Well, I hope everyone's January
has started off on a better foot
than ours has!
I have been MIA for a reason and
may continue to be for awhile.

He is my reason for being MIA.
Mr. Ken became sick on Monday
evening and I took him  to the ER
where he has been a "resident"
since then. I am not going to go into
details but I will say it was pretty
serious for a day or so.
He has made such great progress.
We still have a ways to go but hope-
fully he'll be released mid week next
week.

Some of you know about this via
Facebook and your thoughts and
prayers have been so helpful.

If you could continue to keep us in
your thoughts and prayers would be
appreciated.

I'll see you soon!

This is My Life

Happy Sunday, hope it is treating
you well!

Today we are going to have a little
"Throwback" to what is happening
here.
Back in early April, I hit my 1,000th
post! Very proud of this! When I
began this blogging journey I had no
idea that I would get that far!

April also brought the A-Z Blog
Challenge, a challenge I completed.
My topic was Education. If you missed
it, click on my sidebar.

Baseball began is April also. We
have spent a lot of time cheering
the Boys in Blue-win or lose.

So happy so see the rose bush bloom.
I trimmed it and am always concerned
that I will wreck it and it won't bloom
in the Spring.

And yes, THE DREADED FACEBOOK
has taken up some of my time (a lot).

Some other things going on---

*Flooded family room twice
thankfully minor each time.
Plumber came out to mess with our
tree roots and the neighbor helped
clean our gutters so hopefully now
we can put the room back in order
and not have any more problems.

*Drove 5 hrs to Oklahoma for our
niece's wedding to turn around the
next morning and drive home because
we both got sick. Missed the wedding :(

*There are 5 1/2 days left of school!
We have three ALL day events this
week too. Summer vacay is on the
way and I CANNOT wait!!

*Another niece will graduate from
high school so we have a party to
attend next Saturday and her grad-
uation will be the Sunday of
Memorial Day weekend.

*Mr. Ken will be home that weekend
too --three day holiday weekend with
him.

The following weekend we have a much
anticipated wedding of our friend's
daughter.
Not only will she be getting a husband
but two boys also! We are so excited
for her and her family.

Somewhere in all of this we will help Mr.
Ken's brother and fiance move to there
new house and then eventually we will
have their wedding in September to
enjoy.

Whew---NO WONDER WE ARE
WORN OUT!!!

Awesome!

Hello!

In early October we had the privilege
to help this couple celebrate...

Yep, that's right 60 years! Mr. Ken's
Aunt and Uncle celebrated 60 years
of marriage! In this day and age I
find that to be AWESOME!

Aunt Agnes-she's the lovely lady in
lavender.

Uncle Arnie-one of the most orneriest
guys (in a good way)  that I have ever
met. Arnie is Mr. Ken's Dad's brother.

Aunt Agnes had a wonderful display
of framed pictures and photo albums
of pictures taken over the past 60
years so fun to look at them.

The beautiful cake. There was also
cupcakes too!

The tables set up in the barn had
more framed photos, this being
one of them.

It was a fun afternoon for family,
friends and neighbors to celebrate
such a wonderful occasion!

The Wedding Gift

I went for something a little
different for the gift.

Ta-Da, it's a picnic basket
with a big turquoise(ie)
blingy bow! That was fun
to make, cause I ended up
blue glitter all over the place
in our hotel room plus on me
too! The liner is in blues, greens
and yellows.

Inside, we filled the basket with
all things "pinicky". A tablecloth,
four reusable plates in blues and
yellows, 4 clear plastic tumbler
glasses, paper napkins, clear plastic
wear, wipes, hand sanitizer, a food
tent, glow sticks (for fun), a first aid
kit,  A can opener/corkscrew and an
ice pack.

Happy picnicing to
the newlyweds!

If you missed the wedding post,
go back one post.

Here Comes the Bride

Hello friends, I am back
and we will spend some
time catching up over the
next few posts.
If you remember, near the
end of the challenge, I was
away for a bit. We took a
trip out of town to Oklahoma
to see my niece get married!
The photo above shows the
letter to her new last name, it
was projected above the altar.

Here is my niece Jennifer
her groom Shaun and her
parents Cindy and Gregg
my sister-in-law and brother-
in-law. The bride's mom is
Mr. Ken's sister.

The altar with the unity candle.
In the choir area behind the
altar you can get a glimpse of
the candles placed in the
rows.

In the reception area, this table
held a a bucket of streamers,
pens and questionnaires that
Jennifer and Shaun came up
with for guests to fill out
as the reception began.
The streamers were giving to
guests right before Jennifer
and Shaun left the church.

Here is one of the many tables
in the reception area. Their
colors were turquoise, yellow
and red. Each table was sprinkled
with candy wrapped in these colors
and in the middle of the table is
a blue cloth with a glass teacup
overturned on it. Under the glass
is a yellow flower and on top of
the glass is a red votive candle.

The wedding cake--I think it
speaks for itself. The draping
IS frosting though it looks like
fabric.

Chatting with guests. Love this shot!

Time to cut the cake.

A whole lot of loot for the
newlyweds. They are going
to open these sometime after
the get settled from their honey-
moon in Florida.

Jennifer and Shaun designed
their own invitations and the
questionnaires.

Next post will focus on our gift
that I made.

Make Someone's Day!

Tomorrow--October 26th
is Make a Difference Day.
This is a day where groups
of people (small and large)
get together to help others.

What are your plans for
tomorrow?
Take some time to help
someone else.

While the large groups
tackle the big projects,
here are some things
you can do by yourself
or with your family.

Rake leaves
Sweep porches or
driveways
Run errands for a
neighbor
Smile at a stanger
Give a hug
Spend time with a
friend
Call someone you
haven't heard from
for awhile

Here is a story I just
think is so neat! (From
Women's Day 2013)

During a visit to the
San Francisco Wharf
during a road trip and
around the U. S., my
husband and I were
treated to a great act
of kindness. When the
parking meter wouldn't
take our credit card, a
young man eating lunch
with friends came over
to see if he could help.
After my husband used
the only quarter he had--
which gave us exactly
4 minutes on the meter--
the man told his friends
to empty their pockets
of change. They came up
with 15 quarters, which
they immediately put in
the meter. When my
husband tried to repay
them, they refused to
take any money and
insisted we go have
a wonderful afternoon.

~Betty Johnson,
Spring Hill, FL

Now isn't that the way
things should be?

Share with us what you
do tomorrow!
