I Had No Idea

Did you know that today is
National Chocolate Cake Day?
I had no idea until I read my
email this afternoon.

This is not an official holiday and

no one really knows who created
the day but we can be happy they
did!

*The first boxed cake mix was

created by a company called
O Duff and Sons in the late
1920's.
*The first "just add water"
Betty Crocker  cake
mixes came out in 1947.

In honor of this most

delicious day I have a
recipe for you.

Slow Cooker Chocolate

Lava Cake

Cake

1 Box of Betty Crocker Super

Moist Chocolate Fudge Cake
Mix
1 1/4 C milk
1/2 C vegetable oil
3 eggs

Topping

1 Box (4 serv) Instant Chocolate

Pudding Mix
2 C milk
1 bag  (12 oz.) Milk Chocolate Chips

Spray a 6 Qt. Slow cooker with cooking

spray.
In a large bowl, beat the cake ingredients
with an electric mixer as directed on the
box. Pour into the slow cooker.

In a medium bowl, beat the pudding mix

and the milk with a whisk as directed on
the box. Pour over the cake batter--DO
NOT STIR. Sprinkle with the chocolate
chips.

Cover and cook on low for 2 hrs 30 minutes

to 3 hrs or until the cake is set and the
pudding is beginning to bubble out of the
cake.

*To prevent burning the edges of the cake,

line the cooker with cooking parchment
paper.

Check the Betty Crocker website for reviews

of this recipe. Some had success and some
had trouble with it. Just giving you a head's
up in case there are problems.

Oh Yum!!!

Today, January 23 rd  is National
Pie Day!

The making of pies dates back to

ancient Egypt. In 1,300 B.C.
Egyptian bakers folded bread
dough around nuts, honey and
fruits in the form of today's rustic
tarts.

The Greeks and Romans continued

the tradition but wrapped meat in
flour and water paste.

Those primitive pastries have evolved

into the pies we know today.

What better way to celebrate a

Friday than with a piece of pie!

What kind do you like?

I like apple and chocolate.

Creative Fun

Picture from Google

Hello friends!

I am coming to you from Google Chrome!

Today we have a little crafty fun--
I saw this cute idea on a craft segment on
the midday news the other day.

Take your old crock pot and make it new
by painting it with chalk paint!

I'm not going to go into the logistics
but if you are interested in doing this
Google it.

I love it, great for parties and

potluck dinners. Gives your
guests an idea of what's inside.

Valentine Fun

Notice anything different?
NO PICTURES!!!!
Blogger will not let me load
ANY pictures--they are calling
the "resumables" whatever that
is. Mr. Ken my techno dude hasn't
been able to fix it either!!

Anyway this post will be about "The
Annual Valentine Card Shower"
Each year one of our local radio
stations and another sponsor head
this event.
The cards are taken to Children's
Mercy here in Kansas City and
handed out to the kids on Valentine's
Day. The kids really enjoy this event.

So without further ado--

Anyone interested in brightening
a child's holiday can participate!

Here is the 411:
According to the Sponsors

*Cards should be handmade

*Salutation example: Happy
Valentine's Day (no Get Well
Soon  and nothing religious)

Here is my 411:

Please have them to me by
February 7th so that can get
them to the radio station by
February 13th.

If you need my address, please
let me know.

Gather your family and friends
and help brighten a child's holiday!

A Little Snowflake Fun

Evening to all!

I saw this cute idea in the
December issue of Better
Homes and Gardens Mag
and decided I need to make
some.

They call them coasters and
the pic shows them as such
but I think they would also
work well with mugs too.

They suggest using a coffee
filter and folding it half, then
in half again keep folding so
that you end up with a long
triangle.

In the pic above I have my
coffee filter pattern, the base
pattern, the base and snow-
flake cut out. I pinned my
snowflake pattern to my felt
and then cut them out.

Here is the finished product.
These are a birthday present
for a friend. I'm going to make
more but make the snowflake
and base a bit smaller.
For me cutting out snowflakes
is fun, I just kept cutting snow-
flakes until I came up with a
design I liked.

*Word of warning--if you make
your own or use their's realize
that the more intricate the more
you have to cut, I made mine
as basic as possible. Even mine
involved a bit of cutting.

Enjoy!

You can find the instructions
and snowflake templates at

Happy Brthday to an Icon !

Elvis would have been 80 today!
Can you imagine?

Other than the Beatles, Elvis is
the first musician I remember. In
fact we had the very album pictured
above. I listed to it a lot!!!

Seven years ago for our Summer
vacation, we took a trip to the
Southeast-Tennessee, Kentucky
and North Carolina.
In Tennessee, we went to Nashville
and Memphis. Both of us had wanted
to visit Graceland for a long time and
on this trip WE DID IT! The long drive-
way leads the tour buses to the front
steps of the beautiful home of Elvis
Presley.

This marker and rock wall are at the
front gate. The wall has been signed
by many, many tourists who have
visited the mansion.

Here we are at the front door of
Graceland. They do not allow
pictures inside so everything
taken is outside.

These buildings and play area
are located in back on the estate
property. Lisa Marie actually
played on the swings etc.

Hopefully this isn't too morbid for
most but this and the other graves
are some of the most photographed
items on the property. It really is a
beautiful area.

Back on other museum property is
the Elvis Presley Automobile Museum.
Mr. Ken was in heaven. I enjoyed it too.
In the parking lot on the opposite side
of the car is a full size airplane called
"Lisa Marie," If I remember correctly
one can tour the plane too.

This photo did not get in line like
the rest-so here we are. This is
the parking lot that visitor's
park in and go to the Visitor's
Center to purchase tickets to
Graceland, hit the gift shop
and grab a burger at the
diner.

Elvis left us way too early
but thankfully he left a great
legacy of music to listeners
musicians alike.

Do you have favorite memories
of the King and what songs
do you like.

"I Want To Be Your Teddy Bear"
is my favorite Elvis song plus
other of course.

Happy Birthday, Elvis!!!
