Maya Angelou (1928-2014)

Civil Rights Activist

She published:
Seven Autobiographies
Three Essay books
Books of  Poetry

Other:
Credited with a list of
plays, movies and
television shows over
50 years.

She is best know for her
her book--Why the Caged
Bird Sings, which tells the
story of her life up to when
was 17.

It rose to #1 on Amazon.com
Bestseller list after her death.

At President Clinton's inauguration
she recited her poem " On the Pulse
of Morning."

Lost her voice at a young age due to
a devastating event .

Held a variety of jobs.

Married twice.
Gave birth to one child.

Worked with MLK and Malcolm
X.

Spoke at many events. Political and
social.

She passed away inn 2014 after being
in poor health.
Left a legacy upon her passing.
