Thanksgiving Tidbits



It's Tuesday so it must be time for some
Trivia.

Thanksgiving Trivia!!!!

*American's celebrate Thanksgiving
on the fourth Thursday and our friends
in Canada celebrate it on the second
Monday in October.

*Sarah J. Hale, an American magazine
editor, Abraham Lincoln to declare
Thanksgiving a national holiday.

*Abraham Lincoln issued a "Thanks-
giving Proclamation" on October 3,
1863 stating that the third Thursday
in November be set aside as the
national day for Thansgiving.

*Congress passed a law on December
26, 1941, insuring that all Americans
would celebrate a unified Thanks-
giving on the fourth Thursday of
November of each year.

*The first Thanksgiving lasted
three days in 1621.

*Traditional fare that we enjoy on
Thanksgiving was not served at the
first feast, they were said to enjoy:
Lobster, rabbit, chicken, fish, radishes,
cabbage, carrots, eggs.beans, goat
cheese maple syrup and honey.

*The annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day
Parade traditions began in the 1920's.

*In the US, about 280 million turkeys
are sold for Thanksgiving Day.

*The President is presented with one live
and two dressed turkey's. The "live "
one is pardoned and lives the rest of
his life on a historic farm. This tradition
began in 1947.

*The average Thanksgiving turkey weighs
about 15 pounds.

*A  15 pound turkey usually has about
70% white meat and 30% dark meat.

So there you have it. EVERYTHING
you need to know about the upcoming
holiday.

  1. We are fixing a small breast as we can't eat a whole turkey... we like them on the hoof, anyway! Have a good Thanksgiving!

      then join family on Friday for more celebrating.
      We ill have pork roast tomorrow and turkey on Friday.
