A-Z of Crafts

N--Networking

Today I am going totally off the top of
my head.
A lot of people sell their crafts and I feel
that they have/need a network of people
to be successful in selling what they make.

I have several friend that make and sell
a variety of handcrafted items from jewelry, wreaths, felt creations, clothes with vinyl
sayings and so on.

One friend sells her jewelry at craft shows
and she has a booth is a store here in Kansas
City.

Another sells her signs that she wood burns
or stamps through Facebook, craft shows and
a different store here in Kansas City.
This same friend's sister in law sells her felt
creations at the same store and on Facebook.

I work with a gal that does a lot with her
Cricut and she sells through word of mouth
or her Facebook page.

But all I am sure have a "network" of people
who pass the word that they know someone
who sells"blank." In the good ol' days sellers
used to have business cards which can be an
expense in it self.
Now a days Facebook is the big network
generator for those selling crafts a long with
word of mouth.

Facebook gives interested customers pictures
to look at to see what is being sold and word of mouth helps in the way of "Where did you get
that bracelet, necklace, wall hanging etc."
"Oh, I got this from so and so"

Selling handcrafted items that one makes is
hard and the more people who know, the better
for the seller. A lot of people sell at craft shows because that is a great way of reaching larger
groups of people but they run the risk of either
selling or not.
I have gone to many craft shows in my lifetime
and have looked for certain people year after
year, some are back and some are not which is another risk in the world of crafts.

Have you ever sold things that you have made?
I have but by word of mouth.

O is up tomorrow.

  1. I have sold some cross stitched items in the past. There are not many craft shows around, so if I want to give a handcrafted gift (that I don't make myself), I shop Etsy.

  2. Great point! Thanks for mentioning Etsy. I don't use them so I forgot
    to list them.

  3. Just catching up with your posts, as I've been out of commission for the past week. I used to belong to a craft group and we sold some of our things at shows. Now, I'd much rather be the shopper than the seller:)
