Friday Fun!

Laughter--
Webster's Dictionary defines it as: To find amusement or
pleasure in something.
Mr Ken and I were out running errands today, when something
was said by on of us (can't recall what but is was funny) and we
both started laughing. After I calmed down, I got to thinking
how much fun it is to laugh! Now, I've known this forever but
I think as adults we feel the need to be SERIOUS all the time.
Laughing is good for the soul especially if you laugh soooo
hard you snort! When I do that you know that something is
really, really funny.
Here are some quotes I found regarding laughter:
~~" A laugh is a smile that bursts."
~~" Always laugh when you can. It is cheap medicine."
~~" Laughter is part of the human survival kit."
~~" Carry laughter with you wherever you go."
~~" Laughter is an instant vacation."
~~" A day without laughter is a day wasted ."
( We use this as our mantra in my classroom--
sometimes you gotta laugh or you'll cry.)
For more laughter and fun visit Georgie at Decisionally Challenged,
she'll crack you up! Find some time this weekend to laugh--
you'll feel better!

Treasure Hunt!

I LOVE GARAGE SALES!
Mr. Ken and I hit one today.
Wow, did I get some treasures?
Of course! This was one of those
sales in a school gym---so much
to look at. Oh, Boy!
I came away with a big fat white
teapot-it almost matches my free
dishes! (see two posts ago) I picked
up two rought (sp?) iron plant
holders but I will use them for cup/
glass holders on the deck, two purses
for $1 each!one was a Kate Spade bag!
I have always wanted a Kate Spade bag
but did not want to pay THE big $$$$ for
it, now I have one of my own for $1!
Did I mention I LOVE GARAGE SALES?
Hope you find some good treasures on your
hunts! Let me know what you came away with.

Chips anyone!

Summer Salsa -there is nothing like it! Below you will find a most delish recipe for...you got it. SALSA! 30 cherry tomatoes-cut in 1/2 7-12 jalapeno and/or sorreno peppers-cut in 1/2 (depending on taste seed or deseed) 1/4-1/2 white onion-sliced 3-4 cilantro stems (more if you like) 3 cloves of garlic Salt to your taste Place tomatoes and peppers face down on a cooking sheet or grill griddle. Broil or grill until they are charred to your liking. When cool remove the seeds if you want to. The onion and the garlic can also be "charred". Leave the peel on the garlic while charring. For a more "rustic salsa" chop all ingredients, use the juices that are left and mix together. For a more "smooth salsa" puree all ingredients in a blender or food processor. Stop when it is the consistency that you like. When finished spoon into the jar and refrigerate . Enjoy! Makes 1-12 oz BALL JAR ~Keep Dreaming~

Lookie! Lookie!

As the tiltle says: Lookie! Lookie! I am sooooo excited to show you what I found today! These little treasures were FREE! Yes, I said FREE!
Mr. Ken and I were coming home from lunch and saw a
sign that said Everything Free---- I saw the fan first and thought (as we were driving by) I wonder if it works? I asked Ken what he thought and he thought it probably did since it wasn't in the trash pile. Sooooo we drove around the block and Ken pulled over and I went to look at it. I decided to grab it figuring
that if it didn'twork it was free.As I was standing at the
table I noticed the small white bowls in a box I grabbed
a few of them and went back to the car.
While driving off I was talking to Ken about what I put
in the trunk then the light bulb went off--I wonder what
else was in the box sooooo back we went around the block!
Ken pulled over and I got out, grabbed the box and
picked up a brand new bagel slicer too!!!!!
When we got home I went through the box AND much to
my surprise was a complete set of beautiful white dishes!
There were 6 each--dinner plates, dessert plates, small and medium bowls. I could not believe it!
Hopefully you can see them--they have a ring of dots on the rim then a ring of \\ lines and a ring of dimples on the last row.
Of course, I need another set of dishes like I need a hole in my
head but hey they were FREE! By the way the fan does work.
Never ever pass up any free table even if it is outside.
I know I won't.

A Quiet Place

Do you have a swing? No? Well I believe ever-
one needs one! They are good for quiet time,
planning the next project, reading, watching
the bunnies, squirrels and birds play. It's
also a good spot the "supervise" one's grill
master while he is grilling dinner.
Sometimes I just sit in the swing and let my
mind wander. It's cheaper than therapy.
Mr. Ken sometimes joins me and we chat
or just sit quietly together. This is one of
my favorite times. If you don't have a swing
GET ONE they are wonderful or if you have
a quiet spot enjoy it and let your mind wander.

Share and share alike

This morning I threw some old bread out for the birds. It didn't take long before several swooped in for lunch. I'm not sure what kind of radar birds have where bread is concerned but they sure know when there is bread in the yard.
Mr. Ken and I had a "deck lunch" today and while we were eating Funny Bunny snuck up on the birds and enjoyed some bread along with the birds. "She" kept eating as the birds were
doing their dance around the bread. One would get a nibble fly away and the next bird would get a nibble. They are soooo funny--one bird had it worked out to where another bird fed it!!!!!
Oh, to be a bird!

Unusual Summertime Weather

Summer in the Midwest should be HOT right???? Well not this year, we have broken three records for low temperatures this summer. Now I'm not complaining---It's just so unusual. I'm more of a cool weather person and Mr. Ken is the hot weather person. He's not complaining either. We have been able to have more "deck dinners" recently--we love to eat outside and we enjoy watching the bunnies run around, the fireflies flicker and the neighbor kids playing. The extra rain we have gotten with the cool weather has been beneficial to the yards, garden and flowers. By this time of year the Midwest land has turned yellow and the flowers have lost some of their"perkiness" so it's nice to still have flowers and a green lawn to enjoy. The tomatoes are wild and we have more peppers than we know what to do with. Time to get the salsa recipe out . Enjoy the weather wherever you may be. ~Keep on Dreaming~

Friends are the cream in the cupcakes of life

Webster's Dictionary defines a friend as "one attached to another by affection or esteem." My definition of a friend is--someone who is there for you as much as they can be. Mr. Ken and I have been blessed with many friends through out ours lives. As a couple we share some and don't share others. Just because we don't know some as well. Over the past few years both of us have had the opportunity to reconnect with friends that we've lost contact with due to our busy lives. It's very easy to go with the flow and lose contact of people, then one day the phone rings or you get an email and there your friend is. How lucky we are to be able to reconnect with our friends and find out what has been happening in their lives. Ken and I value our friends and enjoy staying in contact with them. Life is too short---take time to to reconnect. Enjoy the cream!!!! :) ~Keep on Dreaming~

Summer Yummies

There's nothing better than summer produce. It all tastes soooo good. Mr. Ken and I stopped at this farmstand while we were out and about. The family running the stand was very nice and so was their produce. We bought some sweet corn yum , peaches yum ---these will grilled with a little butter and sugar. I also picked up a pretty bulb of garlic. As I said earlier--- there's nothing like it. I am proudly showing the world my very own tomatoes! This was our first year to grow tomatoes and I am hooked! Here is Mr. Ken showing off his corn crop for the year. As with the tomatoes this was the first year for the corn. Let me tell you it was DELISH!!!!!!!! Enjoy the goodness our gardens give us . ~Keep on Dreaming~
