When theIrish immigrated to the US in the 1800's, they brought with them a Halloween tradition--lighting candles in turnips to keep the spiritsat bay. Theycame from the beliefs of the druids--priests of ancient Gaul and Britain. The druidsbelieved that witches, demons, and spirits ofthe dead roamed the earth on the eve of November 1st.Bonfires were lit to drive the bad spirits away.To protect themselves the druids offered thespirits goodies to eat. They also disguised themselves, that way the spirits would thinkthe druids belonged to their own evil company. So, today WE celebrate Halloween by "trickingor treating," dressing up and wearing masks.Top Ten Halloween Movies:~~Halloween~~It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown~~The Haunting~~Young Frankenstein~~Drag Me To Hell~~The Monster Squad~~Nosferatu~~Night of the Living Dead~~Halloween lll~~Creep ShowWhat are yours???~Keep on Dreaming

Interesting trivia! The Great Pumpkin is about as frightening as I get. Anything more gives me nightmares and I wake up screaming strange phrases to Hubby. We decided a long time ago I'd better just stick with Charlie.
I watched The Great Pumpkin last night ~ loved it! I remember seeing "Halloween" at the movie theater as a teenager and being scared for weeks after! That would be my least favorite movie..
