A Summer Recap

Hope everyone is having a great holiday weekend! Labor Day is the unofficial start to the Fall season so we will "finish" out the summer with a recap. Here we go: Memorial Day weekend was spent with family and friends. Lots of garage saling, fun redos, befores and afters. On Father's Day we enjoyed a cookout with family. Ken's sister and her family came up to help celebrate. I took a friend out to lunch for her birthday. Lots of fun! Many, many days of temps at 100 0r above. I think we had least five heat waves according to the weather people. It might as well have been ONE BIG heat wave! This little lady--our Great Niece, turned 2 right before the 4th of July!! How'd that happen!!! :)
You may remember that Ken
was on vacation the week of
the 4th. We took a tour of the
Harley Davidson plant. Great
fun for the "Easy Rider."
Our traditional 4th parade took
place again this year. Many folks
lined the parade route, including
our friends Dan and Nancy. Yes,
that IS Nancy and I with our 4th
headgear. A tradition. Later that
day, we enjoyed grilled burgers
and other yummies at Dan and
Nancy's house. We passed on
the fireworks due to the heat.
Kansas City played host to the
All Star game and Fanfest took
place several days before the
big game. We had so much fun
at Fanfest! If your city plays host
to one make sure you GO!
Since it was so HOT this summer,
I did a lot of reading.
Having dinner with friends also
helped beat the heat.
I celebrated my 3rd blog anniversary
this past summer too.
Fun at the Farmer's Market-we
have made several visits this
summer. It will be open until
the middle of October. This is
a jar of pickled squash. Mr.
Ken loved it! Me--not so much.
You'll remember the salsa
making fun---Hot, Hot, Hot!
I also made several jars of
Refrigerator pickles--some-
thing else the man loves. I
have blackberries in the freezer
to make muffins with in the
fall.
Mr. Ken's birthday was in early
August and the lucky guy had
several celebrations. One being
lunch at a German restaurant in
downtown KC.
The food here is very authentic
and yummy too. This is what the
birthday boy ordered. Two different
kinds of sausages, mashed potatoes,
and red cabbage. It was all great.
The birthday boy, his Dad and
Dad's friend. I'm taking the pic.
Rumor was heard in blogland
about a sunflower farm not too
far from our house and of course
I had to see it.
Over 200 acres of these beauties.
They were a lot droopy from the
heat. But still such a sight!
Right before school started, a
very good friend of ours came
to town for a visit. I have known
Cindy since elementary school.
We also spent many a Sunday
together in Sunday school.
Above is our guest room--it is
a creamy yellow with blue accents.
I made her a welcome gift, which
you can see on the bed. It was filled
with little goodies for her to enjoy
on her visit here.
On her second evening with us
we were able to enjoy dinner
out on the deck. I think if she
could have gotten the swing in
her car we would have lost it.
It was BACK to SCHOOL for
me the next day and Cindy was
off on the next leg of her trip.
We had such fun while she
visited us. Mr. Ken gets the
biggest kick out her sense of
humor. She and I had a lot of
laughs too.
Lots of creating and crafting this
summer.
As you know the start of school
has been a little bit of a challenge
due to those changes we have talked
about, BUT I think we are finding
our rhythm.
FINALLY measurable rainfall
thanks in part to the storm Issac.
We had two days of gentle rain-
fall Friday AND Saturday through
the afternoon. A bit of sun peeked
out later in the day.
A well deserverd 3 day weekend to
do what we want to when we want
to. It's been great and to know we
have ONE more day to relax. YEA!
That's it in a nutshell. Thanks for
hanging with me through this post.
~Keep on Dreaming~

  4. You really did have a fun-packed Summer! So lovely to catch up with old friends too. Our English Summer was rain, rain and more rain. Most kids go back to school this week and guess what? The sun has got his hat on! I hope you settle in back at school, remember change is good, it keeps us on our toes! xxx

  6. You kept busy with lots of fun with family and friends and even an out of town visitor. I like your idea of a gift basket for a guest; now that is a great hostess. Your swing looks very relaxing.

I hope things are cooling off a teeny bit there.

I am waiting and waiting for just a hint of Autumn.

Although I did put a fall runner on my dining room table - ha!

Ken's dinner looks fabulous! I am making a crockpot meal tonight of cabbage, potatoes, carrots, onions and kielbasi. It smells like fall as long as I keep the AC turned up!

    Happy September, lovely lady!
