Leaving The City For The Country--Part 2

As I told you yesterday , there was more to our adventure.
As we came back into the city we stopped at this
lovely little place--Faulkner's Ranch and Pumpkin
Farm. There is a multitude of things to do here.
Mr Ken reliving his childhood as a train engineer.
Here is the gift shop-You can find all sorts of things
here! I love the sign-which says" It's all about the
candy." Oh, so true!!!!!
The above photo and the next few are out front
as you come in from the parking lot.
Yes, folks this is the adventurous couple--Mr Ken and Me.
The above photo and the next few show all the
other fun things you can do here.
They also have many animals to look at and feed-
As you can see this is Humphry-a miniture bull.
Sheep to feed---You can buy feed in the gift shop
or out of machines in the barn.
Llamas--they really enjoyed being fed by some
of the kids there.
AND last but not least--- "The BIG Horny
Thing." This is Mr. Ken's title, my Father-
in-law said it was a Texas Longhorn.
As you can see this is a fun place even for
two "grown up" kids!

Leaving The City For The Country

Yesterday as I was reading blogs, I saw an interesting post on Wild Raspberry--Barn Sale. The post said the sale was going on in the city of Oak Grove, Missouri. So I did a little research, decided we could find it and so this morn- ing we hopped in the Sportage and off we went. From our house, Oak Grove is about 35 miles out. It was a cloudy day but still nice for a drive to the country. The red barn was our indicator that we had arrived.
This beautiful landscape was on the left side of the drive as we
went up the gravel drive.
After exiting the car we walked up the drive to the barn and
saw all these goodies waiting for us to look at! There was a
wide variety of antiques and collectables with a wide variety
of prices. For the most part I thought their prices were pretty
reasonable. the bigger pieces had higher prices of course but
that is to be expected.
This framed marriage certificate was hanging on one of
the walls and it fascinated me. It was hard to read so I
wasn't able to tell what year the couple got married
but I thought it was so fragile looking!
These two pictures show a couple of the "rooms" they had
set up in the barn. Everything was in good shape, clean and
of really nice quality.
This is the kitchen vignette set up . If you look on the shelf
under the cabinet doors--off to your right, you'll see some
little spice containers. (they are above the brown box
behind the lamp) Anyway they came home with us and
have Japan on them. There were three sweet and three
savory shakers. I tried to get Ken to purchase the spoon
that's hanging from the door --- he could eat his cereal
with it but NOOOOOOOOOO! We had a great time and in the next picture you'll see
what we brought home in the Sportage.
Ken got the foot stool for his tired tootsies, I found another
scale I was soo excited. It's a little more "used" but it's
smaller than the one I picked up at the Spinach Fest.
Some of the other things: two little pumpkin trays, a
plate, a large canning jar, my spice shakers, an ink
bottle and my most fav find--the WOODEN BOX.
It has a hinged lid and will hold a lot of loot. (not
sure what loot but...) The box was a bargain at 18.95!
It is in excellent condition.
Most of the items at this sale are from RED BARN
ANTIQUES IN OAK GROVE, MISSOURI.
Stay tuned --come back sometime tomorrow and find
out where we went after we left the Barn Sale.

Fantabulus Fall Fun

Hello-- My name is Melinda and I am a magazine aholic (sp?) and I am darn proud of it!! Look at these beauties!! All decked out and dressed for the Fall Season. Some of these I subscribe to and some I purchased.
Some of my favorites are Better Homes and Gardens,
ALL YOU and...
Country Living. I like Everyday with Rachael Ray most of
time--she has some good recipes off and on.
Midwest Living is one of my all time favs--probably
because it features the Midwest. Ol' Martha has good
stuff and so does Family Circle. I usually only pick up the Country Sampler for the
holidays/ seasons, I like looking at their vinettes,
tablescapes and other ideas for repurposing found things.
Women's Day is one I only occassionally pick up-the
cover on the current issue was so cute I couldn't resist.
Now for those of you who are "going green " you will be
glad to know that as I finish the magazines they usually
end up on the table in the staff lounge at school for others
to enjoy. I have also been known to leave ones I've read in
hospital waiting rooms, because we all know that the ones
there are never current!
My name is Melinda and I am a magazine aholic! :)

Happiness is.....

Do you remember the PEANUTS book? ---Happiness is
a Warm Puppy. I enjoyed that book as a small child. :)
As I was strolling through "blogland" the other day I ran
into a blog by sisters-- As Time Goes By---on that day
Victoria did a post on Happiness. It got me to thinking so
I am borrowing her idea somewhat for today's
Thursday Thoughts.
Things that make me HAPPY: :):):)
1. My wonderful husband.
2. Family and friends.
3. Dinners on the deck.
4. Cooler weather.
5. Children's laughter.
6. Finding that "perfect pumpkin."
7. Fall leaves.
8. Comforts of Home.
9. Good news.
10. Payday!
There are many more things that make me happy,
some are more serious than others and some are just
plain funny, these just came off the top of my head.
WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY?????
