high school musical that our

one of Ken's brothers and his family.

A Valentine Treat

For Christmas my one of my co-workers gave me a recipe book, a mug and several goodies made from the book. She decorated this one for Christmas but you could just as easily decorate one for Valentine's Day OR you could give the ingredients, a mug and a recipe for a Microwave Mug Dessert. The ones I received were Chocolate Brownie, Chocolate Chip Cookie and Peach Cobbler. Kristen (co-worker) got the recipes from: "Easy Microwave Desserts in a Mug" and www.budget101.com Each page has a recipe and specific directions for each dessert. Help Brighten a Child's Day!

Hello my blog friends! These photos are from last February. For those of you who were with me last year, you will remember that I had a challenge . I told you about a children's hospital here in Kansas City that sponsors a Valentine Card shower for the patients that are at the hospital on Valentine's Day. One of our local radio stations also assists with the shower by collecting and delivering the cards to the hospital on Valentine's Day. The children get to choose from the array of cards that have been brought in.

My challenge last year was

that I would make five cards

and then I asked my blog

friends to do the same.

Those interested in participating

could e-mail me for my home

address, they could send me their

cards and I would deliver theirs with

mine.

I am not doing a challenge this year

BUT I am inviting you to help me

brighten a child's day by making

five cards and sending them to

me. I will then deliver them to the

designated drop off so they can be

delivered to the kids.

Last year, Leslie from "a spoonful"

helped me. I would love to see more

cards this year and I know the

kids that are stuck in the hospital

because of critical illness would

appreciate them!

PLEASE let me know if you would

be interested in helping. This is a

fun activity that you, your kids

and grandkids could do together.

They need to be here by February 8th

so that I can get them delivered .

The one request from the hospital

is "No Get Well" messages as these

children are at different stages of

illness. Stay with Valentine messages.

A Day at the Lake

Yesterday we went to the LAKE! Yes, I said the lake. I know it is Winter but our temps were in the 60's! In January--can you believe it? We decided to explore a lake that we had not been to. Wyandotte lake is north of where we live. Imagine a southerly breeze, warm sun and beautiful winter nature to look at. Enjoy!

It was great to be outside w/o

A Three Day Weekend

Hello! It is a happy three day weekend for us here! Neither of us has to work on Monday? Yea! Today was spent catching up on things around the house and watching football. For dinner, I made a pot of soup, salads and bread. Tomorrow we will continue our game of "catch-up" plus get haircuts, we are looking a little ragged around the edges. Tomorrow's temp will be in the 60's so we will also try to get outside a little bit. Monday will be a play day--who knows what we will get into? I just know that having a day off from work is WONDERFUL!!!! Hope you have a three day week end to play with and that you get to do a lot of fun things! ~Keep on Dreaming~

Warm Tummies

Sunday Savor has returned for the new year! Pull that chair up and relax, we have an easy recipe for you today! Baked Spasagna-- From my kitchen and Cheddar's Restaurant 1- 1 lb ground beef 2- 3/4-1 lb spaghetti 3- Pasta sauce or store bought 4- Your favorite cheeses- I used an Italian blend 1- Brown and drain ground beef, mix with the pasta sauce and set aside. 2- Cook pasta until al dente, drain. 3- Spray a casserole dish with non-stick spray. 4- Layer the pasta and the cheese in the dish, ending with cheese. 5- Cover with the meat sauce mix and bake until hot and bubbly. While baking cover the dish with a lid. *The next time I make this I may add a little meat sauce to the layers for a little moisture. Cut in wedges--serve with a salad and warm bread. I didn't make this overly detailed because it seems so easy, if you have a question, let me know. ~Keep on Dreaming~ ************************************** I need help: before Christmas one of you lovely ladies made some bookmarks with large paperclips and ribbons. Home Safety

Home Safety for 2012:

Inspect ALL electric cords.

Overloaded outlets are not

a good thing. Power fails to

get to it's source and then

your items don't work as they should. You may also

experience tripped circuit

breakers and damaged cords

can spark fires also.

Check behind your appliances,

entertainment centers, desks

etc. When in doubt use surge

protectors.

Check for LEAKS in the kitchen,

bathrooms and laundry rooms.

If you catch a leak early you can

prevent damage and a deluge.

Reorganize your BASEMENT

and GARAGE.

Make sure all gas powered

tools are stored away from the

furnace pilot light or water heater.

I recommend that all left over gas

be emptied from these items and

any storage cans that may hold

gas or oil.

Fix the GATE/S in your yard so

they lock. You want to keep the

thieves out and the dogs in.

Loop a padlock through the hole

on the latch, so a key will be needed

to open the lock.

I recommend that you check all of

your windows on the lower level.

Make sure they are secure AND

locked at all times.

Change all BATTERIES in your smoke

detectors and make sure you have

fire extinguishers in strategic places.

We all know that a working detector

is better than on tha is not working.

If your remove the batteries for

ANY reason PUT THEM BACK IN!

Detecting fires early assist in minimal

damage later. I have been through a

fire (when I lived at home) and I'll

tell you-they are not fun!

I will also recommend getting one

of two CARBON MONOXIDE

detectors too. We have one in our bedroom and it talks to us. Not

helpful at 3:00 in the morning when

the battery is low but at least it woke

us up!

A Word for the Year

Happy New Year!

I hope January 2012 has

gotten off to a great start

for everyone. I am still

somewhat adjusting but

all in all things are going

well. Had to go back to

school today! Winter break

is over.

Bummer!

As you see in the photo, I

have a word. BELIEVE-that

is my word for the year. My

favorite author started me

thinking about this then one

of the local news teams talked

about it and I have seen it on a

couple of blogs. After much

thinking and mulling, mulling

and thinking I chose the word

BELIEVE.

I will be the first to admit that

I can be a little on the negative

and see the glass half empty. I

work very hard at keeping those

around me "pumped" up that I

forget myself.

SO......

I believe I can be more positive.

I believe that bumps in the road

will be less rocky.

I believe that I WILL focus more

on myself this year.

I believe that I will get more

accomplished this year.

I believe.....

Going Downtown

On this last day of 2011, I have one more Christmas (ish) post for you. On Christmas Eve, Ken and I went to Downtown Kansas City to see the "Holiday Windows on Main Street." This was the second year that several local merchants in a two block area decorated their storefront windows. Some of the windows were decorated by local artists and you could vote for a particular artist. The artist with the most votes would win a prize. Never did figure out what that was was--sorry. Let's begin our tour. Bundle up it is a bit chilly this evening. Shall we? The picture above and the next two were in the windows of the big grocery store. I'll let you browse and maybe make a few more comments here and there. Enjoy!

The tree was soo cool! It was made

from the ends of plastic soda bottles.

Th red striped this is the tree cord

you can't see the plug but there was

one! The word is "GIVE" but the I

was laying down and hard to capture.

It reminds me of a "Light Brite"

picture.

This artist depicted a snowy scene

with some of the buildings we see

downtown. The building with

"PRESIDENT" on it (above) is

a famous hotel here. It has been

renovated to it's former glory.

Several famous entertainers

used to play in the Drum Room

restaurant back in the day.

Above we have another famous

building-"The Western Auto"

building. Again, back in the day

when downtown was a bustling

place to be you could find

customers getting their auto

needs taken care of there. It

went to rack and ruin too but

now has been renovated into

lofts.

The above picture and the next

three are life size cutouts of

the weeknight anchors, sports

guy and our weather guy.

NBC Action News helps sponsor

this contest. This is a very

talented artist. I could of

stood there for awhile just

looking at all the details of

the faces, clothes, snowballs

etc. I think this was my fave

set of windows!

shoppers in the snow. This was

around the corner from the news

windows.

March of the Penguins and Friends

Last Thursday evening Ken and I drove to a house that have known about for two years but never got to last year. This family has a Penguin display as the above sign says. Now, I am not talking about one or two of the large inflatables BUT the WHOLE yard is covered with Penguins and friends. All donations given are donated to the Leukemia Society in memory of his Mother. We had a blast walking through the displays in the front and side yards even if it was COLD. But that is the best time to look at penguins don't you think?? He even had a screen set up that was playing "Happy Feet" on it. You will see it in one of the pictures. We hope you enjoy the tour.

Our Merry Little Tree

This year I went with a theme for the tree. "Candy Land." I had a bunch of different "candy" ornaments from past years, so I didn't have to buy much for the tree this year. We used the tinsel tree again this year. A night view. A tippy top view of the bow and garland that I wrapped around the ribbon. A bottom view--I used the box and the game board then put the tree on top.

Yesterday my students made "Reindeer

Food." this a quick and easy activity

for young and old alike. Kids love

the concept.

I checked on the net for a printable

copy of the "recipe" and gift tags.

Here is the recipe.

Magic Reindeer Food

In a snack size zipper bag, mix:

1/2 cup uncooked oatmeal

1/2 cup sugar

1/4 cup red and/or green sugar

sprinkles

Zip up the bag tightly and mix

together. Add a gift tag with

directions on sprinkling on

your lawn.

**We skipped the sugar and used

just the oatmeal and the sprinkles.

After listening, I Googled

it to find out more.

It is written by Colleen

Christian Burke--she

received a personal

invitation from First Lady

Laura Bush to help decorate

the White House of Christmas

of 2008.

She writes of the traditions that

each First Lady decided on during

their time in the White House.

It begins with the Kennedy's and

continues through the Obama's

I have read the first chapter and

now I am moving on to the

Johnson's term.

This would be a great book for

someone who has an interest in

the White House, the First Ladies,

history and traditions. Each chapter

ends with a special treat for the reader.

I purchased this for myself for

Christmas and I am really enjoying it!

this was supposed to be "flurries."

It didn't amount to any accuulation

but it sure made a mess getting to work

It is that time of year again! What time do you ask? The time for these two kids to celebrate their wedding anniversary! This is number 12! Yea!!!!!! This is where we had dinner last night. A very authentic Italian restaurant, owned and operated by Jasper Mirable. We had a chance to speak to him as were leaving! He is like a local celebrity here in the Kansas City area. For dinner I had Chicken Parm. with pene pasta. Ken had Italian sausage with pene pasta. Our meals began with a most delish salad and bread! No pics of our meals because the photographer was too busy eating and enjoying. :) This folks is "the dessert cart." Five levels of the most devine delish desserts one can imagine! Drooling can occur when this comes flying by!

appt. so she gave me some meds for

my VIRAL UPPER RESPITORY

Well, here he is. No, he has not

become a pirate! He is fresh from eye surgery. Cataract to be exact.

Some of you will remember that back

in Februrary 2010 he had the first

one removed. Today he had the other

one removed.

Ken is younger than most who suffer

from these but it is not unusual. He

will be able to recover over the holiday

week and should be fresh to Rock and

Roll come Monday morning.

We would like to Thank all of you for

your thoughts and prayers during this

time. You are GREAT!!!!

Thanksgiving Yum

Sunday Savor

Pull up a chair and relax!

Since Thanksgiving is almost

upon us I thought I would share

a pie recipe that puts a different

twist on Pumpkin Pie.

This will be on our menu this

year!

Pumpkin Mousse Pie

1 1/4 cups of cold fat-free milk

1 pkg (4 serving size) vanilla

fat-free sugar free instant

pudding and pie filling

1 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice

1 cup canned pumpkin

1 tub (8 oz) frozen reduced

fat non dairy whipped topping

thawed, divided

1 Graham Cracker Reduced Fat

Pie Crust

1---In a large bowl beat milk, pudding

mix and spice with a wire whisk for

1 1/2 minutes. Whisk in pumpkin.

Fold in 1/2 the topping. Spread in the

crust.

2--Top with the remaining topping.

3--Refridgerate at least 2 hrs. Garnish

if desired. Store in the fridge.

Makes: 8 servings. Enjoy!

It's time again for SUNDAY

SAVOR! Today's recipe is so

easy! Pull up a chair and relax.

It is so easy that I am not using

a "recipe" format.

Mexicali Beef Mac and Cheese

1--Brown 1 pound of ground

beef, drain and set aside.

2--Make your mac and cheese

box or homemade. Add taco

seasoning to your taste while

cooking.

3--Mix the beef into the mac and

cheese then add Rotel tomato

and chilies to your mixture. (I'm

not much into heat so I used the

Mild version and mixed according

to our taste palate. Let your mixture

sit on low for about 5 - 10 minutes to

allow flavors to "marry." Serve with

veggies or a salad and ENJOY!

When asked what one item would be missed on Thanksgiving if it wasn't served. 58%---Stuffing 18%---Sweet Potatoes 16%---Cranberry Sauce 8%---Pumpkin Pie Now I know that I am in the minority when it comes to these things, because I wouldn't miss any of them! I don't care for any of it. I would miss: Mashed Potatoes, Corn, Green Salad/Green Beans, Apple Pie What would you miss if it wasn't served for Thanksgiving??? ~Keep on Dreaming~

Fun Friday

This evening Ken went with a buddy

to play pool and I took advantage of

that time for "me" time. All week

(as if I have had the time) I have been

thinking about "comfort foods", I

blame this on the changes in the

weather and the upcoming time change

on Sunday morning.

So, I got out some of my recipe "messes"

and cleaned them up--choosing ones

that were tried and true and ones

that I think I will really try. I got rid

of the ones I knew were "no-gos."

I think I mentioned sometime this

past summer that I am trying hard

to get my recipes under control.

As you can see in the second photo

I have a really nice recipe notebook

that was given to me by one of my co-

worker's. It came with dividers, page

protectors, recipe cards and some

labels.

Main dishes was the category of choice-

I wanted to find some of my soup and

casserole recipes for the upcoming

weekend and the new work week.

I found some BUT I know I have more!

I have way too many recipes. But I am

trying at least. Control will reign soon.

It's My Birthday!

This is where I spent my birthday. Mr. Ken took me here for a delicious birthday dinner. It is an Italian feast for the eyes. I had ceasar salad, house salad, bread, chicken spedini, fish, hash brown potatoes and fet. alfredo. Ken had sausage and peppers, different salads than I and bread. For dessert we had a chocolate mud cake with vanilla sauce, raspberry crostini and rainbow sherbet! Two very happy people with full tummies!

and lavender roses with white car-

nations. He did well didn't he?

My present was a Digital Camcorder

that also takes pictures.

It came with a case, tripod, software,

memory card, batteries, screen

protectors etc. etc. :) This will be

so fun for family events and other

fun times. My classroom gave me a party and I recieved gifts from some

of the gals I work with. Many messages

from friends and family too. It has been

a GREAT birthday!!

Weekend Fun

This past Friday and Saturday our community center held the Lenexa annual Handcrafter's Fair. The cute candy corn above was one of the first things that I picked up. I also bought one for a friend in a different design but I didn't take a pic in case she peeks in here. :) Aren't these pretty? They are blank cards using actual photos. Such pretty leaves. They will be hard to let go of! This little cutie is a present that I bought myself. He told me that he needed to come home with me. I believe he is made from tea dyed muslin and I think the ear muffs must of been dyed red. This block is going on my desk at work cause sometimes we need this reminder. I got it at the same booth as the snowman. This needlework hanger and the three mini pumpkins are posing with a pumpkin from Joann's. It felt the need to be in the picture. The mini's were made by a thirteen year old. I thought they were just too cute! One vintage Christmas ornament. Love the snowflakes. The other items are soy wax melties. You can use them with your candle warmers or other warmers you may have. They have fun names and smells. Lots of fun wandering around and looking at everyone's creativity. I did see a great idea for old cabinet doors or bedroom doors. The lady painted the door a particular color and then in the inset she used chalkboard paint for a message center. She also left the knob on to hold the chalk on a string. She also had a regular size door that was divided with two insets, she also used the chalkboard paint here too. Too fun!! Sunday Savor: Today we have a easy and delicious recipe. Come on in and pull up a chair. Relax!

Zucchini and Rice Casserole

1/2 of a Zucchini-shredded

1-2 Cups Minute Rice-cooked

1 Cup milk

2-3 Tblsp. butter

2-3 slices of cheese

Spray your casserole dish

with a nonstick spray. My

dish was an oval shape.

Mix all ingredients together

and microwave for 5 minutes.

Remove from microwave, stir

making sure butter and milk

have mixed together and the

cheese has melted to your

satisfaction. It need be add

more milk/butter for smooth-

ness. Cook for 5 more minutes

if needed. Enjoy!!!!

Spending Time with Friends

How do you have fun on $2? Well, you grab a couple of friends and go to the 25th annual Lenexa Chili Challenge in Old Town Lenexa. For $2 you get a plastic wrapped spoon which you unwrap and then you go to as many booths as you can handle and sample chili made by the different competitors. Some of booths did Salsa instead of chili. There was somewhere around 100 booths to sample from!!! This was the "greeter" at one of the booths!

A German Meal Our Way

Sunday Savor has returned! So pull up a chair and relax. For this installment I am going to share a meal that we had for dinner last week.

Last Saturday (8th) we went

to one of our favorite German

stores/deli for lunch. While

there we picked up a box of

Spatzel and a some sauerkraut.

Which I paired with some pork

cutlets and applesause that my

father-in-law made.

I dredged the cutlets in milk

and seasoned flour then put

them in a pan with olive oil.

The Spatzel reminded us of

a cross between rice, noodles

and or pasta.

So our menu was:

Pork Cutlets

Spatzel with butter

Sauerkraut

Applesauce

It was a very tasty meal if I

do say so myself!

Thrifty Fun

Some of you have asked about the

red stool. It has made a couple of

appearances on the blog recently.

It came from a Barn Sale that Mr.

Ken and I went to earlier this month.

I almost left it, I'm glad I didn't

since it fits perfectly on our porch

AND the price was right--$ 20.00!

The items on the stool came from

the same sale. I bought Mr. Ken

the antique level, which is currently

living on our TV. I alos got some

kids blocks and a silver cream

pitcher.

This is the same sale that we go to

each fall in Oak Grove, MO.

Whirlwind Weekend---Part 3

After visiting more with the family it was time to head home. On our way we stopped in Stillwater (OK) for dinner and a little shopping. We love to go to Eskimo Joe's. They are located one block east of the campus of OSU. Joe's is famous for their smiles and burgers. They opened July 21, 1975 with mostly a bar atmosphere then they expanded to a restaurant venue. Joe and Buffy---the logo was born shortly after opening. One tired boy waiting for his food. Next door is Joe's store--this is where you will find "the" t-shirts that are reputed to be one of the most collectible in the country. After 34 years those shirts have been seen all over the globe. Mine will be seen tomorrow at school and Ken's will be seen soon. Stop in if you are in the neighborhood.

Whirlwind Weekend--Part 2

On Saturday we took a short trip down Route 66 with sister-in-Law Cindy and part of her family. We ended up in Arcadia, Oklahoma, where we saw the Round Barn. There was a wedding reception going on that we "sorta" crashed--- now we didn't bother anyone but we did peek inside--really fun place for a reception. We also wandered around outside for a bit. The stairs lead up to the area that the reception was in. On the grounds were some tables so we had the"boys" pose for us. Brother-in-law Gregg, nephew Bradley and husband Mr. Ken. We headed down the road to "Pops" touted as a "must see Route 66 landmark." It is a 50's style diner with futuristic architecture and a gas station. They also have OVER 500 flavors of soda pop!!!! A 66 foot pop bottle. The girls.

Whirlwind Weekend

This is where we had lunch. It is located in Wichita, Ks. We were on our way to Oklahoma. Edmond to be exact. This is an old service station. Complete with car bays, service areas and lots of other fun stuff. Historic Marker. An old oil changing bay - now filled with beers and lit up. Great fun! Mr. Ken and his new friend. :) Tummies filled and ready to get back on the road.

We have arrived in Edmond, Ok.

sister and it was her 50th birthday!

We decided to drive down for the

weekend and surprise her!!!

believe that we would drive 5 hrs.

Field of Fun

This past Tuesday, Ken and I went to watch a football game. Flag football, my friends. Grown men running around a half field trying to rip "flags" off each other. One of Mr. Ken's coworkers has put together a league and this was their first game. It was interesting to say the least. There was a lot going on. Two games were played at the same time, more than one whistle was blown--it took a bit to get in the swing of the swing but in the end I was able to follow what they were trying to accomplish. These men take this very seriously but they all seemed to be having fun. Which is what the league leaders were looking for in the guys. All in all we had a lot of fun and I'm sure we'll go see another game soon. Below are some of the shots I was able to capture.

2) Have a cooking contest-

this would be good for a

weekend activity. Everyone

gets a ribbon!

3) Serve dessert first. My kind

of dinner--yes siree!

4) Have a movie night--serve

appetizers to along with the

movie chosen.

5) My suggestion---Serve

breakfast for dinner. One

of our faves! Enjoy and have

Festival Part 2

Back in July we went to the Great Midwest Balloon Fest. Some of you may remember that last year we dealt with thunderstorms and did not get to see much. This year's event was held at a different venue and earlier in the year. Much better! There were several food vendors, games for the kids, tethered ballon rides, lift offs when weather permitted and at night there was a balloon glow--this is where they blow up the balloons and all together light them up. Great fun and most of it was FREE!!!! Scroll down and check out the fun we had!!!!

Friends, Food and Fun

This past Saturday we went to the annual "Spinach Festival" held here in Lenexa. The festival celebrates the Belgium heritage of Lenexa residents. They are the first people who raise spinach crops here in Lenexa. So guess what on of the booths sells??? You guessed it right! All kinds of food made with the good ol' green stuff. Spinach pizza, wraps, spinach balls, hot dip and cold dip, Wimpy burgers and they also have a baby pool (cleaned before use) full of spinach salad! There are other vendors selling all sorts of other kinds of yummies. In the pic above, Mr. Ken is finishing a spinach ball. There is a lot too see and do at the festival which takes place in one of our beautiful parks. There are lots of craft tents, activities for the kids by the pond, music on the main stage and lots of fresh air and vitamin D. PS--I lost a pic somewhere. It showed Nancy at one of the tents holding a decoration for Thanksgiving. The gals---Nancy--Acorn Cottage, me and Estelle, Nancy's Mother-in-Law.

Ten Years Later....

I remember the day as if it

were yesterday--Thank goodness

it wasn't! I was home sick and

Ken was on his way to work

when he called and asked if I

had the TV on, I said NO but

promptly turned it on and was

horrified at what I saw! What

started out as confusion

became quite clear. I kept Ken

up to date as the day progressed

because I could not stop watching

and watching and watching!!!!

I am sure that you were in the same

boat. Maybe you know some affected

by the day or lost someone that day---

we did not but OH how our hearts

went out to those on that fateful day!

Many many prayers go out to ALL!!!

To those who lost family and friends,

coworkers and to those of us that

REMEMBER each day.

Labor Day Fun

Yesterday we took a trip

to Hillsdale, KS known for

BBQ and the lake.

We spent part of the afternoon

on the beach at the lake. It was

a beautiful day but a little cool,

some braved the water though.

Below are some of the pics we

took of our outing.

What a fun time we had. Just

enjoying the weather and

people watching. We brought

snacks and drinks for our after-

noon at the lake.

We arrived home happy, tired and

sun/wind burned. We will go again,

maybe not this year but next summer

is definite!

The Adventure Continues......

Happy Labor Day to all. Have fun and stay safe. The Adventures of Ken and Melinda continued this past weekend. On Saturday we donned our warrior gear and took back the Garage! It had become a bit out of control but we prevailed. We tossed a bunch of stuff and made several piles for donation. On Sunday we did the same and got the deck, backyard and the east side yard in order for fall. We swept the deck , emptied a bunch of pots and fluffed the plants that did survive the summer's extreme heat! We picked up sticks and moved some things around in the back- yard. The side yard close to the house where the hostas live got some got some fresh mulch! By the way THAT IS KEN AND I in the picture!!! HA! HA!

And this my friends is where

we are spending the afternoon.

Scenes from a Reunion

The class of 1981 met for their 3oth class reunion on Saturday, August 27, 2011. I brought our Senior yearbook along to look at. Three of us gals were part of the yearbook staff our senior year. We used the yearbook to try to figure out who people were as they walked by. Yes, they had name tags on but who could see them from a distance? A photographer attempted to take a "class photo" of us and this is what Ken was able to get with our camera. It was a little bit like getting Kindergarteners to pose for a photo! :) Here are the three "Amigas." My friend Missy, who I have known since Kindergarten is in the middle and our friend Gale is on the end. We are the threesome that was on the year- book staff. Oh, what fun we had!! A really cute guy--I should of asked him out!!!

Oh wait, I'm married to him!!!

We had a great time and it was

fun to see people that I hadn't

seen for awhile.

A little houskeeping. 1--Thanks for all the suggestions for clothing choices for my reunion tomorrow. I believe that I have come up with a fun combo but you will have to wait for the pictures! 2--Blessings a prayers for all of you in the path of Irene. May you stay safe and ride out the storm without any problems! 3--I have completed TWO weeks of the school year as of today! It is still hard to believe that we are back at it. We have a good group this year and I feel that we will get a lot accomplished with our students. 4--Mr. Ken had the afternoon off and is buzzing around here getting things done. Right now, he is mowing the yard as I type this post. It is good to have jobs but they do get in the way. :) Have a wonderful weekend ! Watch for the reunion post at a later date. ~Keep on Dreaming~

Fun to Do

Back in July we went to some garage sales in a friend's neighborhood. I found these tea towels at my friend's sale. Not really knowing what I wanted to do with them, I brought them home. Put them in my sewing room and left them. Well in my wanderings I decided to make another tea towel apron. Some of you will remember that I made a set of these for a bridal shower at school a couple of years ago. I ironed one of the aprons and then using Heat Bond, ironed the ribbon I found in my stash on the apron. I wanted a pocket on this apron so using part of the other tea towel I figured and measured for the pocket. Since the fabric is striped, I wanted the pocket stripes to go vertical as opposed to horizontal. I folded the raw edges under before sewing the pocket onto the apron. The side edges were already sewn. After I sewed the pocket on I sewed a line down the middle of the pocket sew it was two pockets instead of one big one. Voila! Here is the completed apron.

I am hoping my blogging friends can help. What would one wear to a place called Brew Top Pub and Patio for a high school reunion? There will be a DJ, dancing, cash bar and hors d' oeuvres. The main menu will also be available. This is on Saturday evening at 7:00 in the evening. It is supposed to be sunny and 87 that day. I'm thinking one would lean on the "business" casual side of clothing choices????? Don't you think that would work? ~Keep on Dreaming~

garage sale and look what

I found! A Charlie Brown Tree!

Some of you know that I love, love

love the Charlie Brown Christmas story. I was so excited to see this

sitting all by itself waiting for me

to see it.

I had seen these in CVS and

Walgreen's last Christmas but

never got one. Now I have one

and I can't wait to put it up for

Christmas! I told Ken this was

our tree this year--he gave me a

funny look. I wonder why? :)

It hasn't even been used! How

much fun is this!!!!

Mission Accomplished ! ! !

This is Spratt Stadium on the campus of Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri about an hour north of where we live. My mission today was to take Mr. Ken to our Pro football team's Training Camp! He had NO idea where we were going and even the signs on the the way there didn't give him a clue! Ha. Ha. Yes, my friends it is THAT time.

I have to go back TOMORROW!

The students start on Monday for

1/2 day as well as Tuesday. Then

begins our year full force with

full days of "fun."

I have had a wonderful time off,

got a lot accomplished and did

some playing too. One can't work

ALL the time. Summer will have to

continue on the weekends now along

with everything else.

Here's hoping this year will be a little

easier on all of us and that we have

more great days than not so great

ones.

Ken had Spicy Beef--3 on the hot

scale. I had Thai Fried Rice with

Chicken. Very mild. We also

had Crab Rangoon for an

appetizer. Both of us enjoyed

our meals and Ken was very

happy with the restaurant

choice! A real keeper.

Ken said that his birthday was

GREAT and he asked that I

we buy cucumbers and

tomatoes from her at rock

bottom prices! We also

bought a giant Zucchini

from her.

Our garden is pretty much

finished for now--Ken still

has peppers and the tomatoes

will keep coming. Salsa any-

one? This year's garden was

much more productive than

last year's and Farmer Ken is

a happy boy!

It's UNANIMOUS we are tired of

the HEAT! I am so ready for Fall!

We are going to have more of this

"delightful" weather into next week.

Check on the elderly.

They said on the news tonight-that

the best way to cool down when you

are over heated is to mist yourself.
