Oh Momma!!!

Storm number two arrived on Tuesday am.
This was AFTER we got snow last Thursday and Friday. Storm one brought around 12 inches and number two brought around 8 inches. As you can see this storm
brought a heavy wet snow.

That would be Ken's car under all that
snow AND the tree limb. A neighbor came
over to let us know about the tree limb.

The stuff stuck to EVERYTHING!

Remember this guy from the last storm?
Well, Mother Nature felt he needed a bit
more snow this go around.

A birdfeeeder wears a festive winter hat.
That's a clothesline at the top left sagging
under the weight of the snow.

A look out the guest room window.

The bush looks like a bag of BIG
Gigantic cotton balls was dumped
on it.

Remnants of storms one and two.
This is on the west side of the driveway.

Here is "Nanook of the Midwest" getting
ready to dig us out for  the second time.

Huh????

5 things to do with Toothpaste

1. Apply a pea size drop on a
bug bite. It has an ingredient
that has a cooling and numbing
effect on your skin.

2. Get food smells off your fingers
by squirting some paste on a damp
cloth and lather up. It eliminates
odors on your hands just as it does
for you mouth.

3. Been coloring on your walls?
Use a cloth and some paste to clear
away those marks. The gritty texture
will cut through waxy residue.

4. Want to hang artwork?
Hang posters by dabbing the corners
with the paste. Position and stick on
the wall. When you are ready to remove, carefully peel away from the wall and
rub away the paste with a damp cloth.

5. Clean any buildup on your fave
jewelry by
rubbing a small amount
on with a soft brush on your fingers.
Rinse well with warm water.
DON'T USE ON DELICATE ITEMS.

Did you know ???
Before Johnson and Johnson
put toothpaste into tubes in 1873,
it was sold in glass jars. The change
was made to make it easier to use
when traveling.

A Little Fun

Here in the Midwest we are in the
bullseye from another Winter Storm!
The weather dudes and dudettes are
saying that we could possibly get
somewhere between 8-15 " of snow!
If we get that much I guess we will
enough to make snow angels. These
are fun to make but I never got
the hang of getting up from one
without messing it up. I read some-
where these ideas for making them
even better.

1. Paint it using spray bottles of  water
tinted with food coloring.
2. Sprinkle on a birdseed design.
3. Decorate it with natural elements,
twigs, evergreens, pinecones etc.

Enjoy!

A Fun, Festive and Frigid Day

At 6:20 this morning Winter returned with a Blast!
WE had thunder, lighting, wind and 12" of snow. THEN we had freezing rain, more snow at 5:00 with one more band coming through as I type this.

At 9:00 the snow began to fall and accumulate on everything.

At 9:13, the wind picked up and the snow began to blow!!

In the afternoon we had a bit of a break in the action but it began again just before 5:00 p.m.

More snow blowing around.

Here is the deck almost 12 hours from
the first picture taken.

Mother Nature sure had a party here today! She successfully shutdown a major city and those cities surrounding it,  Everyone was encouraged to STAY home and most did but the news reported lots of problems on the roads and highways. Ken was home and they
called school last night, There will not be school tomorrow and Ken is wating to see if the county will open tomorrow. What a day!
Chili in the crockpot, cookies were made and cornbread too. Now we will snuggle in for the night and see what tomorrow brings.

A Bouquet for You

Here is a fun craft for you to do.

I received this rose bouquet for
Valentine's Day from one of my
students. Her Mom made one for
each of us.

These would be great for any
holiday table. For Easter use
pastel cellophane or plastic wrap.

Supplies:

Hershey's Kisses in foils to match
your theme
Florist tape Safe confectioners' glue
Artificial leaves (optional)
Florist wire
Ribbon
Clear cellophane or plastic wrap

Instructions:

1. For each candy rose, spread the
glue on the bottom of one of the
kisses. Firmly press the bottom of
another kiss to it.
2. Insert foil wire into the pointed
end of one of the kisses. Wrap a 4
inch square of cellophane around
the candies, twisting tightly around
the chocolate.
3. Starting at the bottom of a rose,
wrap florist tape around the edges
for the cellophane, continuing down
the full length of wire with tape. Add
leaves, if desired, securing leaves in
place with tape.
4. Tie two or more roses together
with a bow or make small bouquets.
Mine has 6 roses to it.
COMPLETED CRAFT IS FOR
DECORATIVE PURPOSE ONLY AND
CANDY SHOULD NOT BE EATEN.

Have Fun!!

Did You Know???

It's Tuesday! We have LOTS
of Trivia to talk about.

Sunday began our busy week
of celebrations.
Chinese New Year started Sunday
and will last 15 days  and ends
with The Lantern Festival.
This is year 4711 and the year
of the SNAKE.
The purpose of the Lunar New
Year is to celebrate the begining
of the New Year in the Lunar
calendar. The Lunar calendar is
different from our calendar and
that is why this holiday is on
different days each year as opposed
to our New Year beginning on January
1st each year. On the 15th day they
have a Lantern Festival.
This a day full of fun and food.

Today in New Orleans and other
major cities Mardi Gra or Fat
Tuesday is being celebrated.
There are parades, dancing,
lots of food and fun on this
last day before Lent begins
tomorrow. Another term for
today is "Shrove Tuesday."
Shrove Tuesday is a reminder
to some that a season of penance
is coming.

Do you "give up" anything for Lent?

Thursday is Valentine's Day.
This is a special day to celebrate
love with cards, candy,flowers
and lots and lots of hearts!!

How do you celebrate Happy Heart Day?

Leftovers Made Easy

It's time for Sunday Savor and a
I have a super easy recipe for
everyone today.
So pull up a chair and relax.

Melinda's cupboards were bare
this morning AND I was HUNGRY.
After a moment my "lightbulb"
came on and I remembered the left
over tortillas in the freezer.
So I made some Cinnamon/Sugar Tortillas.
By the way YOU can't eat just one.

4 Tortillas-thawed out
Cinnamon-Sugar/Splenda mixture
(If you can't have sugar, replace with
a substitute)
Butter spread

Butter one side of the tortilla and
place in a warm frying pan.
(Medium/Low heat)
"Fry" for a minute and flip, spread
this side with butter. Be careful
not to burn your hand. "Fry" on this
side. Flip on each side until you feel
they are finished.
Place on a plate, sprinkle with the
cinnamon/sugar mix and then fold
in half. I cut mine in thirds.

*Please note this is a recipe that
you "eyeball." Not everyone likes
the same amount of cinnamon/sugar
that others do.

Serve.

Enjoy!

I am sure that most of you have done
this before but Mr. Ken said these would
be good for Sunday Savor. :)
I was impressed with them since it was
a spur of the moment thing and my tortillas
were frozen to begin with!

Thrifty Party Ideas

On Sunday we had some friends over
to watch the Super Bowl. This is the
party I try to do on a budget. Because
one can get carried away thinking they
need all things Super Bowl. For decorations,
I used items from previous parties that I
keep from year to year. Unused napkins,
confetti, serving dishes, tablecloths, plates,
plastic ware and football cutouts.

On our wedge I placed small footbal serving
dishes to hold peanuts and M & M's and small
napkins to use with the snacks and drink spills.
In my tray I just put two napkins that looked
like a football field and then I sprinkled on
(new ) metallic confetti.

For table coverings I used two table cloths
that I had saved and they just happened to
match the colors of both teams. They are
folded in half and placed side by side then
I used the napkins that looked like referee
shirts.

I used plates and napkins that I had. I did buy
one package of napkins that had footballs on
them. I also used football cutouts, confetti
(old and new) plus curly ribbon. I did buy these
and then cut them apart to use on the table and
the wedge.
We had finger foods so I didn't use much of my
saved plastic ware, I did use three red spoon I
had and them for dessert I got out some plastic
forks.

Table is set and ready to go!  More party pics soon.

So basically I purchased :

New confetti
One package of napkins
Two different curly ribbons

As I mentioned earlier, everything else was
saved from other parties. I find this to be
THE BEST way to have a party without
spending alot! If you are going with a specific
theme ALWAYS check to see what you have
left over from past party and then supplement
with purchased items.

Today is...

It's Tuesday--time for some Trivia!!!
February 5th is the 36th day of the year.
There are 329 more days left in the year.

Today is National Pancake Day and
IHOP is giving their guest a FREE
shortstack. They are helping The
Children's Miracle Network Hospitals
celebrate their 30th birthday.

It is recommended that guests leave a
contribution for the pancakes.

It is Weatherperson's Day! They work
so hard to predict the weather and get
so much flack from their viewer's. To
be the weatherperson. Oh boy!
Here in Kansas City, we have one
particular weatherman who LOVES
the weather and gets very wound up
when we may have a "weather event."
How do you feel about your weather
people???

World Nutella Day is today. Started in
2007, this chocolaty hazelnut concoction
is celebrated each year. Do you like Nutella?
Me? Not so much. Not sure why.
What do you do with Nutella?
Check out www.nutelladay.com for more fun
stuff.
